Summary

As a Biological Science Technician (Fish) your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
Work individually or as part of a team in all aspects of the daily care and production of fish eggs, fry, fingerling and adult brood stock at a large cold water fish production facility.
Perform assignments and general maintenance required for the upkeep of a fish hatchery including use of simple hand tools and power equipment (mowers, trimmers, hammers, saws) and other tools for minor repairs on hatchery facilities, equipment, and grounds.
Operate fish distribution tanker units up to 66,000 pounds GVWR.
Compile and summarize biological and water quality data for analysis as part of monthly sampling procedures.
Support outreach activities including providing basic information to the public and partners about the fish hatchery and its programs.
Merit promotion applicants must meet time-in-grade requirement as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F.
Suitability for employment, as determined by background investigation.

Minimum Qualification GS-08

Two years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree -OR- possess a master's or equivalent graduate degree that is directly related to the work of the position (e.g., major study in fish biology, aquaculture or fish culture, limnology, ichthyology, etc.). One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended.
