Help

As a Material Handler, you will:

  • Work independently in a wide range of warehousing activities, including receiving, storing, selecting, and shipping general or specialized supplies, records, furniture, and nonexpendable property for all offices within the Bureau of Fiscal Service. These deliveries are by freight, motor freight, van lines, delivery services, or other carriers.
  • Independently unload all supplies, records, furniture, and nonexpendable property received, verifying the contents of each shipment against bills of lading, waybills, packing slips, or invoices, which might accompany the shipments.
  • Sign receipts for shipments, making note of the condition of the shipment on bills of lading or other required documents.
  • Verify against the associated purchase order before the shipment is accepted and determine the office or area that ordered. Upon receipt of supplies, furniture, nonexpendable property, etc., prepare Receiving Reports and arrange for delivery to requester; ensure appropriate individual signs for receipt.
  • Fill requisition or memorandum requests for supplies, records, furniture, and nonexpendable property maintained by the warehouse stockroom.

  • This position requires that the successful candidate undergo personnel vetting, which includes a background investigation and enrollment upon onboarding into "Continuous Vetting." Enrollment in Continuous Vetting will result in automated record checks being conducted throughout one's employment with Treasury. The successful candidate will also be enrolled into FBI's Rap Back service, which will allow Treasury to receive notification from the FBI of criminal matters (e.g., arrests, charges, convictions) involving enrolled individuals in near real-time. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Manual dexterity, deftness of manipulation, and coordination in moving equipment are required. The incumbent must have the physical dexterity to uncrate and move large shipments of supplies and materials such as furniture, steel walls, computer paper, computers, etc. The work at times is very dirty and hazardous. The incumbent is subject to cuts, bruises, and possible injury when moving, lifting, and crating and uncrating heavy items, chemicals, and equipment. Must exercise tact, courtesy, discretion, and good judgment in furnishing or obtaining information, in person or via telephone, while conducting warehouse operations.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.

Possess a valid state motor vehicle operator's license or Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and maintain a valid license while you occupy the position.

Complete a pre-employment medical examination (including vision, hearing, cardiovascular and mobility of extremities) by an authorized Government physician and be determined physically fit to perform strenuous physically demanding duties. You will be required to undergo regular physical examinations and to maintain a level of physical fitness in accordance with the standards and policies of this agency.

Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training. You must show in your résumé and in your responses to the Supplemental Questionnaire that you possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position.

You must meet the screen-out element, The Ability to do the Work of the Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen-out), normally addressed at the beginning of the online questions.

To meet the screen-out element, applicants must have: Experience working in a warehouse, or a similar setting, without more than normal supervision - receiving, issuing, and storing supplies and equipment, seeking supervisor assistance on occasion, and with my work being routinely checked by a supervisor.

  • Work is performed primarily in the warehouse area and on or near the loading dock where the incumbent is subject to all types of weather, fumes from motor trucks, dust and potential infection. At times, working outside during the extreme temperatures of winter and summer are necessary.
  • When required, serves as a back up to the motor vehicle operator position. In this capacity, incumbent will be required to operate a various sizes of box trucks with a gross vehicle weight of up to 26,000 pounds.
  • Must successfully complete a Public Trust background investigation.
