Duties

Help
  • Reviews and edits policy and action papers for clarity that all EUR offices submit to the Assistant Secretary through the EUR Deputy Assistant Secretaries, in conjunction with the Special Assistant.
  • Serves as the Front Office point of contact for EUR, departmental, and interagency community staff on projects that are of direct interest and concern to the Assistant Secretary.
  • Analyzes existing, new , or proposed policies, operating procedures, administrative controls, and report systems used by staff.
  • Prepares a wide variety of "official informal" correspondence, such as senior staff huddle notes, for EUR Principals on matters affective both the management and policy of the Bureau.
  • Maintains awareness of all current policy decisions and the status of important pending matters, for purposes of information and guidance to the various bureau offices.
  • Tracks all Congressional correspondence within the EUR/FO and ensures information contained in responses addresses the issue(s).
  • At the GS-12 level, the incumbent performs essentially the same duties as outlined above; however, the scope and complexity of assignments are of less responsibility and independence and receives closer than normal supervision.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all the required qualification requirements described below by the closing date of this announcement. NOTE: Applicants must meet time-in-grade and time after competitive appointment requirements, by the closing date of this announcement. Time-In-Grade Requirements: Federal applicants must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade to satisfy time-in-grade restrictions, per 5CFR 300, Subpart F.

GS-12:

Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service which provided the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position.

Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 

Experience tracking and reviewing incoming and outgoing documents for content, correct formatting, and timeliness.

Experience preparing reports and delivering briefing to senior officials on findings and recommendations.

There is no substitute of education for specialized experience for the GS-12 position.

GS-13:

Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service which provided the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position.

Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

Experience tracking and reviewing incoming and outgoing documents for content, correct formatting, appropriateness, timeliness, and internal consistency.

Experience handing a wide range of critical, time-sensitive issues and actions and efficeinctly priortizing those actions to ensure deadlines are met.

Experience communicating and applying communication skills to obtain information and provide advice and guidance to colleagues, office leader, and Front Office level.

There is no substitute of education for specialized experience for the GS-13 position.
