Help
  • Supervises delivery and transportation operations involving the operation of medium and heavy trucks transporting printed materials and agency products.
  • Plans, schedules, and assigns daily work to approximately 15 employees including Motor Vehicle Operators, Forklift Operators, and support personnel.
  • Provides technical guidance and training to employees on vehicle operation, material handling, safety practices, and delivery procedures.
  • Performs full supervisory personnel management functions.
  • Serves as liaison between production management, other agency departments, Federal agencies, and Congressional offices concerning delivery schedules and requirements.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B.
  • PHYSICAL EFFORT: Duties require Moderate lifting is required for objects weighing up to 50 pounds and required to have good eye-hand coordination and proficient vision.
  • Must possess and maintain an Industrial Truck Operator Permit (Forklift Certification).
  • WORKING CONDITIONS: Work in an office; at times, inside and outside warehouse areas setting. May be exposed to varying weather conditions, vehicle traffic hazards, or possibility of accidents while operating trucks or material handling equipment.
  • Selectee may be required to pass all preemployment requirements prior to appointment.
  • Selectee may be required to obtain a background investigation for suitability.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position, you must meet the following requirements: Applicants must have experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to independently perform the duties typically required of a Supervisory Printing Plant Worker.

Job Element #73, Ability to lead and supervise, encompasses the following knowledge and ability: The following are typical duties of the position:

  • Supervising, leading, or directing employees engaged in motor vehicle operations, transportation, delivery, warehouse, or material-handling activities.
  • Planning, assigning, and reviewing the work of Motor Vehicle Operators, Forklift Operators, or similar employees to ensure timely completion of transportation and delivery requirements. Coordinating daily delivery schedules, routes, vehicle assignments, and workload priorities.
  • Ensuring compliance with motor vehicle safety requirements, cargo security procedures, CDL regulations, and agency operating policies.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Background Investigation:
To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully completed a background investigation for a Suitability. This review could include financial issues such as delinquency in the payment of debts, child support and/or tax obligations, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs. Depending on the type of background investigation required, the security process may take between 6 weeks to 12 months.

The agency may rescind the tentative offer, if the candidate is unable to obtain an interim clearance.
