Duties

Help
  • You will serve as the Supervisor of the Working Dog/Military Working Dog section responsible for planning, directing, training and managing the operation.
  • You will train and lead explosive detector dog handlers in Bomb Threat clearing operations.
  • You will develop, schedule, coordinate, maintain, and lead the Working Dog/Military Working Dog training program.
  • You will perform law enforcement activities such as assisting in the investigation of crimes, responding to emergency calls, issuing citations, testifying in court proceedings and conducting vehicle and foot patrols.

  • Incumbent is subject to 24-hour recall and will maintain a 24-hour recall notification number and is required to respond per installation policy/SOP. May be subject to being interrupted from meal or other work breaks while on duty
  • May be required to respond to off base circumstances as directed by the installation commander, in accordance with USMC and DoD policy
  • Incumbent must pass a sanctioned physical agility test and medical evaluation and pass periodic re-tests as required.
  • Incumbent must pass all weapons qualifications tests prior to assigned duties and responsibilities and must pass all requalification's as required
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license, be able to obtain/maintain a U.S. Government emergency vehicle operator’s license, and an explosives driver's license
  • Incumbent must be able to read, write, and speak English
  • Must pass explosive material physical, complete explosive/hazardous material training and obtain/maintain appropriate commercial hazard license in order to drive an explosives vehicle.
  • Incumbent must carry firearms
  • This is a Department of Navy Drug Testing Designated Position (TDP). Required to undergo pre-employment urinalysis requirements and sustainment drug testing
  • The position is covered by 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor of felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position
  • Must be a U.S. citizen; pass a National Agency Check and local background check
  • This position does not meet the definition of law enforcement officer (LEO) and is excluded from coverage as LEO for purposes of the Federal Employment Retirement System Base Annuity IAW 5 CFR. Pan 842, Subpart H
  • Must be 18 years of age

Qualifications

GS-10: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: planning, directing, training, and managing police officer and Working Dog Handler operations; establishing Working Dog training, procedures, maintenance, and grooming standards to ensure proper Working Dog care and Kennel Facility upkeep; and performing inspection and investigating work to effect compliance of individuals with laws, rules, and regulations in the protection of life, property, and the civil rights of citizens.

Must maintain program height and weight appearance standards

Must meet medical standards for police officers in DoD 6055.05M and NMCPHC-TM-OM-6260

Required to wear uniform and maintain appearance and grooming standards per Marine Corps Orders/policies

Must successfully complete a designated USMC Police Officers Course of Instruction and meet all certification requirements, to include weapons certifications, CPR, AED, DoD and Joint Training Regulations. Training may be conducted at a regional academy

As first responders to chemical/biological attacks, must be able to train and wear personal protective equipment to include mask, suit, boots, and gloves.

If incumbent is conducting law enforcement operations in navigable waters, incumbent must attend the Inland Boat Operator Training Program course at FLETC or similar course

Must have successfully completed the current MWD Basic Handler course at Lackland AFB or obtain approval through PM, MCLEP for other accredited course.

Must be a graduate or attend the first available school of the Military Working Dog Kennel Masters Course at Lackland AFB, TX

Incumbent must pass the Police Applicant Suitability Review (PASR) investigation.

Must be able to police equipment, certify in the use of radar detection and alcohol detection equipment, field sobriety tests, expandable or collapsible baton, and obtain other certifications required to accomplish the duties of a law enforcement officer

Failure to meet conditions of employment may result in disciplinary action or termination.
