Duties

  • Manage workload and project priorities and ensure timelines are adhered to.
  • Direct work so that it remains focused on the research goals.
  • Coordinate with higher level management for needed resources.
  • Perform scientific and administrative reviews and analysis of applications/proposals from a programmatic viewpoint.
  • Consult with and advise grantees/contractors during preparation of applications/proposals and provide guidance on program issues.
  • Develop, coordinate, and administer grants, cooperative agreements, and contracts established to fulfill the mission of the Brand and Division.
  • Organize and conduct workshops, conferences, symposiums, or similar activities.
  • Visit universities, research institutions, commercial organizations, other government agencies, and public and private organizations to promote and explain the objectives of the program.

Qualifications

Basic Education Requirement:

In order to qualify for the Data Scientist GS-1560 position, you must:

A. Possess a bachelor's degree, or graduate/higher level degree with a major study in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science, or a field that is directly related to the position;

OR

B. Possess a combination of education (at least 30 semester hours) and additional appropriate/related experience that is the equivalent to a major in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or a field directly related to the position.

In addition to the Basic Education Requirement - You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public as described below:

  • Published as a primary or corresponding (i.e., communicates with editors) author in research papers, books, patents, manuscripts, or reports summarizing analyses and findings that influenced strategic priorities, policies, or research direction;
  • Served as a keynote speaker or panel chair at major scientific events (e.g., international conferences, annual conventions, interdisciplinary symposia) to influence strategic priorities, policies, or research directions;
  • Managed a research program/portfolio, overseeing personnel, policy compliance, and alignment with established scientific direction;
  • Mentored senior-level scientists, providing strategic direction, feedback, and development to achieve research goals;
  • Evaluated emerging scientific fields, trends, and research quality to identify deficiencies and establish new programs that advanced research direction.
