Duties

Help

The successful candidate must have networking experience and a proven track record of outstanding customer service and technical troubleshooting. Responsibilities include installing, configuring, and supporting network infrastructure, computer hardware and software, telecommunications and audio/video equipment, and specialized court technology systems. The role requires the ability to work directly with judges, special masters, chambers personnel, and court staff to support technological needs in chambers, courtrooms, and remote work environments. Strong follow-through, teamwork, accountability, and a commitment to high-quality work are essential.

IT experience in federal courts, law firms, or other legal environments is highly desirable, as is training in or a working knowledge of the following areas:

  • Cisco network equipment
  • Windows server operating systems
  • Office 365, SharePoint, OneDrive
  • Other areas relevant to the position

Key Responsibilities

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Install, configure, and support network hardware.
  • Perform troubleshooting, system maintenance, and support for Cisco and Microsoft infrastructure systems.
  • Analyze and research procurement needs relating to the purchase of Cisco and Microsoft systems
  • Create and maintain systems documentation.
  • Recommend, schedule, plan, and supervise the installation and testing of new products and improvements to computer systems.
  • Perform IT Security related duties including vulnerability scanning, security assessments, and IT security policy development.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Certifications:
  • Candidates with certifications from Microsoft and Cisco are strongly preferred.

Qualifications

The successful candidate is a self-starter who is detail-oriented, highly organized, and professional. They exercise sound judgment, tact, initiative, and strong prioritization and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required to effectively interact with court personnel at all levels of technical expertise, from frontline staff to chambers, as well as external stakeholders. The ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while maintaining a professional demeanor is essential.

To qualify at the CL 28 level:
Two years of specialized experience, including at least one year equivalent to work at the CL-27 or the completion of a master's degree or two years of graduate study (27 semester or 54 quarter hours) in an accredited university in information technology or a field closely related to the subject matter of the position. Specialized experience is progressively responsible experience in or closely related to the work of the position that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position successfully.

To qualify at the CL 29 level:
Two years of specialized experience, including at least one year equivalent to work at the CL-28 or the completion of a master's degree or two years of graduate study (27 semester or 54 quarter hours) in an accredited university in information technology or a field closely related to the subject matter of the position. Specialized experience is progressively responsible experience in or closely related to the work of the position that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position successfully.

Preferred Qualifications: Completion of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in information technology or a related field. Five (5) years of specialized experience which demonstrates working knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the Network Engineer may be substituted for the degree requirement.

U.S. Courts

The United States Court of Federal Claims is seeking a Network Engineer. The incumbent performs network troubleshooting, support, and system maintenance. Duties include hardware installations, firmware updates, system configuration, vulnerability scanning, and security patching. This is a professional and highly visible position that will provide support to approximately 200 end users in two locations within the DC metro area.

This position is eligible for regular and recurring telework. The actual amount of telework is based on the suitability of the candidate, the position, and the needs of the court.
