Duties

Help

The Facilities Services Supervisor is responsible for supervising facilities staff; overseeing loading dock and shuttle operations (the museum proper is located in New York City and the storage facility is located in Newark, NJ); and ensuring safety compliance. 

In this position, you will:

  • Serve as the supervisor for the Facilities Services staff. Duties include the following: developing performance plans, evaluating work, coaching employees, administering leave, resolving staff complaints, recommending promotions or awards, and initiating any disciplinary personnel actions.
  • Plan, direct, monitor and manage the day-to-day oversight of the museum's cleaning and housekeeping operation, organizing, coordinating, and directing custodial work and general maintenance activities of the Facilities staff.
  • Coordinate Facilities support for museum events and programs, both internal and external as required, including furniture movement, setup, and takedown.
  • Serve as the Loading Dock Supervisor, managing all receiving, storing, and shipping activities. Responsibilities include enforcing safety procedures, authorizing vehicle access and coordinating visitor flow, tracking shipments, maintaining inventory logs, and ensuring secure storage of materials.
  • Inspect motor vehicles, ensuring that they are properly serviced and operating on schedule.

  • The incumbent is designated as an emergency essential employee, required to report during closures and work overtime or holidays as needed. As an emergency essential employee, the incumbent is required to report to, or remain at, his or her regular duty station/tour of duty during administrative closings due to hazardous weather or other emergency situations.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license and a strong safety record.

Physical Requirements:
This position requires the physical ability to perform moderately heavy work including lifting and carrying heavy objects up to 50 lbs.; work outside in all weather conditions with exposure to dirt, dust, pollen and insects; climb ladders and stairs; and stand and walk for extended periods.
