The incumbent of this position serves as the Deputy Director, Office of Aviation Safety for the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). As Deputy Director, the incumbent is responsible for supporting the AS Director, to provide executive-level management and oversight of the Office, which investigates, analyzes, develops, prepares detailed reports, and proposes probable cause determinations of civil aviation accidents and incidents, and makes related safety recommendations.

As a Deputy Director, ES-0340-00, you will perform the following major duties:
Provide leadership and direction to aviation accident investigators, engineers, and support staff to ensure high-quality investigations and reports.
Oversee aviation accident and incident investigations from initial response through completion.
Review and oversee accident reports to ensure that all relevant facts and contributing factors are identified, analyzed, and documented. Lead in the development of findings and recommendations for the Board, including proposed determinations of probable cause.
Develop and implement strategic and annual operating plans to achieve the Office's short- and long-term goals.
Build and maintain strong working relationships with federal, state, local, and international government agencies, aviation organizations, labor groups, industry stakeholders, and safety organizations.
Represent the NTSB in meetings, conferences, and other forums related to aviation accident investigation and transportation safety with senior government officials, industry leaders, and international partners.
Provide expert advice on aviation safety issues, emerging technologies, and industry standards.
Promote understanding of the NTSB's mission and the importance of independent accident investigations in improving transportation safety.

Qualifications
As a basic requirement for entry into the Senior Executive Service (SES), you must clearly articulate and describe within your two (2) page resume evidence within the past 10 years of progressively responsible supervisory, managerial, or professional experience which involved leadership and management of a program or organization of significant scope and complexity, normally obtained over several years by serving in positions at the GS-15 level or equivalent.

Salary: NTSB structures its SES positions into tiers to determine the minimum pay for each position. This is a Tier 2 position. The minimum pay for this position is $151,661 and the maximum is $222,200.
SES employees are also eligible to receive performance-based bonus and pay increases.
Moving expenses associated with permanent change of station (PCS) are not authorized for this position.
