This position serves as the senior advisor to the Managing Director and Deputy Managing Director for Investigations (MD/DMD) on the progress of investigations and recommends and develops actions or policies to address issues that arise. Monitor the status and progress of accident investigation reports and Board products, consults with modal offices on scope and timing of investigations and products, ensures consistency in report format, quality and structure.

Help

As a Senior Advisor for Investigative Products,GS-0301-15, you will perform the following major duties:

  • Ensure the effective and efficient management of the agency's investigative products by providing information, program direction, issue analyses, and recommendations.
  • Gather quantitative and qualitative data from various internal accident investigative sources; monitors data to identify and tract trends, identify problems, and resolve or recommend solutions.
  • Conduct analyses of issues or problems occurring within the investigative processes of the agency and recommend/develop policies or procedures to address them.
  • Attend investigative work planning meetings, report planning meetings, or other product-oriented meetings to represent the Managing Directors view and concerns and serve as a resource and advisor/liaison to clarify and track action items.
  • Develop and maintain the risk register for investigative processes, procedures, and products.
  • Analyze specific areas of concern in investigative products, processes, and/or procedures to assess historical trends and identify emerging trends.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 in the Federal service, or comparable pay band system. Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as: advising senior leadership in the efficient and effective development and delivery of safety investigative products (i.e., safety reports, safety studies, safety alerts, safety advisories, etc.,) processes, and functions; monitoring the status and progress of accident investigation reports; analyzing accident investigation products data using electronic reporting tracking software programs, and; developing recommendations to improve accident investigative products and processes.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB): Independently Advancing Transportation Safety

NTSB is an independent federal agency charged by Congress with investigating every civil aviation accident in the United States and significant events in the other modes of transportation-railroad, transit, highway, marine, pipeline and commercial space. We determine the probable causes of the accidents and events we investigate, and issue safety recommendations aimed at preventing future occurrences. In addition, we conduct transportation safety research studies and offer information and other assistance to family members and survivors for each accident or event we investigate. We also serve as the appellate authority for enforcement actions involving aviation and mariner certificates issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and US Coast Guard, and we adjudicate appeals of civil penalty actions taken by the FAA.
