Duties

Help
  • Plans and administers through a subordinate staff the sports, fitness and/or aquatics program, which include self-directed and unit-level sports, intramural sports programs, and above-intramural competitive sports programs, and swimming pool(s).
  • Develops and implements community fitness/sports programs, accommodating wide interest. Provides program guidance to facility managers (fitness centers, pools). Gathers input on goals, monitors program standards.
  • Develops Standard Operating Procedures, and memorandums regarding special sports events and coordinates equipment, facility, transportation, and other sports event administrative support needs with appropriate base operation support personnel.
  • Supervises and mentors subordinate supervisors. Advise employees regarding policies, procedures, and directives of management. Performs the full range of supervisory duties over assigned staff.
  • Collects input from supervisors on goals. Develops internal goals and program standards. Monitors programs to ensure standards are met or surpassed through consistent evaluation.

Qualifications

A qualified candidate must possess the following:

Progressive experience that demonstrates the ability to plan, supervise, administer or carry out fitness, sports and aquatics programs that include a variety of individuals and team sports and events; and ability to manage staff that guide participants in developing the skills for participation in sports, fitness, and aquatics activities. The related work experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower level.

Preferred are those that possesses a four-year degree in physical education or equivalent and directly related work experience as indicated above.

In addition to the above qualifications, candidates who possess the following qualifications will be considered "Highly Preferred" or "Best Qualified":

Highly Qualifying Criteria:

  1. At least 3 years of oversight of an aquatics program
  2. At least 2 years of oversight of an intramural sports program
  3. Posses Lifeguard Management Certification
