Help

Responsible for performing carpentry work and assisting with a variety of maintenance work, which involves routine and skilled work as instructed by a journeyman, skilled worker or foreman. Plans and completes work assignments.  Reads, interprets and applies building plans, specifications, blueprints, sketches, and building codes.  Operates a variety of equipment to accomplish the work.  Maintains records of supplies, equipment, tools, and materials essential to the work being performed.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

EVALUATIONS:

Qualifications

Skills and Knowledge: Must demonstrate skill and knowledge of methods, techniques, and tools relevant to the trade.  Must have the ability to perform construction, maintenance, and repair to structures, structural items, equipment, fixtures and utilities.  Must be able to plan and complete Journeyman level work.  Must be able to interpret sketches, schematics and blueprints.  Must have knowledge of the Uniform Building Code.  Must be skilled in the use of equipment and have knowledge of safety practices common to the trades.  An annual physical and a California driver¿s license is required.  

Responsibility:  Works under general supervision.  The majority of the work is performed independently where the incumbent makes decisions based on personal knowledge.

Physical Demands: The work involves prolonged standing, bending, stooping, physical exertion, kneeling and other uncomfortable and tiring positions.  Frequently is required to work on parts of equipment that are located in hard-to-reach places.  Regularly lifts, moves, and carries light to heavy weight objects.  Handles a variety of tools, materials and equipment.  Climbs ladders and may perform work from scaffolds or high places. Work involves frequent lifting or moving of objects weighing up to 30 lbs., constant standing and walking; and occasional lifting of over 50 lbs.

Work Environment: Work is performed both indoors and outside.  Exposed to sawdust, splinters, grease, oil, lubricants, metal shavings, and flying chips.   The worker is subject to cuts from hand or power tools.  May be exposed to inclement weather conditions. Must wear protective gear. Employee may be required to travel (TAD) - temporary assigned duty overnight
