Help
  • You will administer medications and solutions orally or intravenously under the direction of standing orders or of an off-site physician.
  • You will interpret an electrocardiogram (EKG) for a patient with an unstable heartbeat to determine future medical treatment.
  • You will provide invasive airway procedures (e.g., needle or surgical cricothyrotomy, pleural decompression, endotracheal intubation, nasal intubation).
  • You will enter confined spaces to perform patient care, rescue and recovery.
  • You will extract a trapped patient to prevent further harm during removal.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Must be able to obtain State of Hawaii Paramedic license within six (6) months of hire.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position has a maximum entry age of 37. Candidates that will be older than 37 at the time of appointment will require an age waiver.

Qualifications

For The GS-09:
Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Ability to apply advanced levels of emergency medical techniques, including advanced patient assessment and treatment, advanced airway techniques, invasive medical procedures, calculate patient medical dosages; ability to determine patient method for transport to a medical facility. 2. Interpreting concepts, principles, and theories of fire control and extinguishment, including characteristics and behavior of fire; methodologies, strategies, and equipment used in prescribed fires; fire detection, prevention, and suppression strategies; knowledge of and ability to apply firefighting techniques in hazardous environments. 3. Responding to releases or potential releases of hazardous materials for the purpose of stopping or controlling the release using specialized protective clothing and control equipment. This includes approaching the point of release to plug, patch, or otherwise stop the release of a hazardous substance.

For The GS-08:
Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1. Conveys written information in a clear, concise, organized, and convincing manner for the intended audience, using correct English grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Expresses thoughts persuasively and uses effective modes to reinforce message retention. 2. Demonstrates ability to clearly and effectively articulate, present, and promote varied ideas and issues (to include sensitive or controversial topics) before a wide range of audiences. Makes clear and convincing oral presentations. Listens effectively; clarifies information as needed.

Must have National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) Paramedic certification.

Must be able to obtain State of Hawaii Paramedic license within six (6) months of hire.
