Duties

Help
  • Passes on instructions received from supervisor to other employees, and starts work (e.g., by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led).
  • Checks work in progress and when finished, checks for compliance with supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines.
  • Performs a wide range of technical duties supporting the receiving, storing, selecting and shipping of stocked merchandise.
  • Retrieves data of incoming product from automated system and utilizes said data to ensure accuracy of incoming container information/deliveries.
  • Performs the full range of material handling duties to include but not limited to; loading, unloading, picking, packing and shipping of various perishable and semi-perishable products.
  • Provide recommendations for additional manpower and/or shift personnel when necessary to ensure efficient warehouse operations. Recommend and participate with the supervisor in the planning of current and future work schedules and staffing needs.
  • Performs housekeeping duties as required, identifies and resolves any safety hazards and ensures that lower graded workers are maintain and safe and secure work practices.
  • Answers workers' questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives (e.g., technical orders).

  • The duties of this position requires the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position requires the incumbent to possess, or obtain and maintain, a valid official U.S. Passport.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment such as steel-toed safety boots and other personnel protective equipment provided.
  • Must be able to lift and carry weights up to 40 pounds.
  • Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs and Living Quarters Allowance (LQA) are NOT authorized.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) MATERIALS HANDLER (FORKLIFT OPERATOR) LEADER without more than normal supervision. The ability to perform the full range of team leading duties to ensure proper receipt of product, stocking of product using the First In First Out (FIFO) method, and shipment of product to customers using Material Handling Equipment (MHE) - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Effort: Uses moderate physical effort while performing the various maneuvers involved in the operation of forklift and other material handling equipment, and may be subject to strain caused by vibrations from machine. Frequently lifts and carries merchandise and supplies that weigh up to but seldom in excess of 75 pounds. Help is available to lift and carry merchandise in excess of 75 pounds. Performs work on hard surfaces and in work areas that require standing, stooping, bending and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
  • Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside. Works in areas that are hot, cold, damp, drafty, and/or poorly lighted. Works in bad weather such as outside areas and open docks. The work may be dirty, dusty, and greasy. Work is performed in close quarters in warehouse aisles and docks. Is exposed to injury through careless storing and stacking of material. Is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes and bruises while performing the job.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Additional information

  • Direct deposit of pay is required.
  • U.S. citizens overseas under ordinarily resident status are not eligible for appointment under the Status of Forces Agreement.
  • Locality pay does not apply in the overseas area.
  • If an employee brings a child to an overseas location and that child is entitled to attend a DoD school on a space-required basis in accordance with DoDEA Regulation 1342.13, the DoDEA and the Military Department responsible for providing related services will ensure that the child, if eligible for special education, receives a free appropriate public education, including related services pursuant to DoDI 1342.12 and DoDM 1342.12.
  • If an employee brings an infant or toddler (up to 3 years of age) to an overseas location, and that infant or toddler, but for the child's age, is entitled to attend the DoDEA on a space-required basis in accordance with DoDEA Regulation 1342.13, then the Military Department responsible for EIS will provide the infant or toddler with the required EIS in accordance with the eligibility criteria consistent with DoDI 1342.12 and DoDM 1342.12.
  • Employees (and family members) who require medical or dental care in the overseas location will be responsible for obtaining and paying for such care. Access for civilian employees and their families to military medical and dental treatment facilities is on a space-available and reimbursable basis only.
  • Pay retention may be offered to selected applicants for positions at overseas locations. Pay retention will not be offered as an incentive for employees moving between overseas positions.
