Develop a comprehensive Industrial Hygiene Implementation Plan for the medical treatment facility to eliminate health hazards.
Perform special studies to support the development of office policy and the application of new or existing policies.
Schedule and conduct industrial hygiene surveys to determine compliance with current federal regulations.
Participate in developing controls to minimize or eliminate actual or potential health hazards in collaboration with other specialists across various military facilities.
Recommend control measures to reduce hazardous environmental conditions within the facilities.
Utilize appropriate equipment to determine compliance or noncompliance with current industrial hygiene and occupational health standards.
Review constructions pans for ew construction and/or renovation to identify any potential occupational hazard
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
One year trial/probationary period may be required.
This position has a TDY or business travel requirement of 10%
Required to be screened for and obtain necessary immunizations/vaccinations (hepatitis, influenza, etc.), unless exempted by a licensed physician.

Basic Requirement for Industrial Hygienist:
Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
OR
Related Degree: Bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For engineering degrees to be acceptable, the curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum.

Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH).
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting assessments to identify workplace hazards; performing hazard exposure monitoring or sampling to determine levels of exposures or appropriate control measures; providing training or education to employees or supervisors on subjects related to occupational exposure; and maintaining health hazards or medical surveillance information in an information management system. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
