Duties

Help
  • Plan, direct, coordinate and review activities of the technical staff engaged in the receipt packaging, issues and disposition of supplies and equipment.
  • Oversight responsibility and accountability during the receipt and transfer of controlled and sensitive material to designated storage areas.
  • Responsible for training of appropriate personnel in the handling and storage of temperature sensitive medical products (TSMP)
  • Ensure all hazardous material standards pertaining to all assigned areas are met, to include training records, warning devices and work practice precautions dealing with storing of hazardous materals.
  • Select workers and assigns tasks to be performed.
  • Develops performance standards, counsels employees on performance, and makes formal and informal performance appraisals.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required

  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • One-year supervisory probationary period required. A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 70 pounds may be required.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid stateside driver's license.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Material Handler Supervisor ~ without more than normal supervision. The ability to perform common supply and warehouse operation tasks. Conduct common routine research utilizing computer generated stock-age reports, ordering and entering stocked medical items via automated systems, and checking quantity of medical supplies and material received. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Work requires frequent lifting or moving of objects weighing from 50-70 pounds. Assistance is available from other warehouse personnel with heavier items. Requires walking on a concrete floor for most of the day. Uses safety and protective clothing and equipment furnished by the employer. Subject to extreme weather conditions, performs work primarily indoors, but does go outside to maintain stock in outside storage facilities and to delivery supplies to the medical treatment facility and other off site locations.
  • Work is done inside or outside in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted. Regularly exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, abrasions, falls and injury from falling stock or mechanized work areas. May work in assigned areas in which temperatures are controlled such as the Army Institute of Surgical Research (ISR) Burn Ward and the OR where germs and patient treatment is the regulating factor of comfort. Employee is required to wear safety clothing and equipment appropriate for the job and work area where assigned or as directed by the supervisor. Work may require wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as steel toed shoes, rubber gloves, masks, rubber aprons. Type of protection will be determined by the work environment. Clothing and equipment include, but are not limited to the following: eye, respiratory and foot protection, protective clothing (gloves, apron, coveralls, scrubs, etc.) Other types may be required as deemed necessary by authorized management officials. Employee will be required to wear approved hearing protective devices and an audio metric test will be conducted, as necessary, when working near or around noise hazardous areas, machinery or equipment. Identification badges are required to ensure that staff is authorized access to assigned areas. Identifies and reports safety, environmental, and facility issues to their supervisor for processing. In addition, may also be exposed to dust, dirt, grease and solvents, and to high noise levels in mechanized work areas. When working with hazardous materials, may be subject to exposure from radiation, toxins or chemical fumes. Also at risk for the possibility of exposure due to infectious diseases from patient areas.

  • This position is designated as Emergency Essential. You may be required as a condition of employment to take the series of anthrax vaccine immunizations to include annual boosters. May include other immunizations that may be required for this position/for a position you may fill as an emergency essential alternate. Failure to take immunizations may lead to your removal from position or separation from Federal service. Position is considered essential to support DoDs mobilization and wartime mission during periods of increasing tension or mobilization. Position is considered emergency essential because (1) No qualified and immediate replacement exists; (2) having it vacant would/impair effective operation of essential military support system/adversely impact combat mission of deployed forces. Failure to remain in your position may result in separation for the efficiency of the Federal Service, (Ch 75 Title 5 USC; FPM Ch. 752).
