Duties

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for a comprehensive suite of Human Resources program areas for the U.S. Attorney's Office, Northern District of Texas. You will serve as a Human Resources Assistant for an organization of administrative/legal professionals and attorneys. Typical work assignments will include:

  • Process a wide range of personnel actions within various functional areas of personnel management for assigned service areas.
  • Respond to applicants, visitors, and/or telephone callers interested in obtaining employment.
  • Process new employees and conducts orientation sessions on such matters as health benefits, life insurance, thrift savings, retirement and military service credit, and deposits/redeposits owed.
  • Review, process and resolve problems/discrepancies relative to personnel actions.
  • Collect information for employees and managers/supervisors on employee benefits, and answer questions regarding entitlements.
  • Assemble background investigation packages.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position of Human Resources Assistant, at GS-0203-6/7, you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below.

Specialized Experience - GS06: Applicants must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in Federal service.

Specialized experience is defined as: using automated systems for tracking the status of work-related processes; entering data into one or more computer systems; obtaining needed information from files or general reference sources; providing office automation support (e.g. creating, copying, editing, storing, retrieving a variety of documents); or maintaining administrative files or records.

Specialized Experience - GS07: Applicants must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in Federal service.

Specialized experience is defined as: briefing new hires on entitlements; providing customer support to internal and external customers; providing office automation support (e.g. creating, copying, editing, storing, retrieving a variety of documents); using computers and software programs in an office environment to extract, revise, or sort information from files, records, or databases; or researching regulations, policies, and/or personnel guidance.

Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP): The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies. If your agency has notified you in writing that you are a displaced employee eligible for ICTAP consideration, you may receive selection priority if: 1) this vacancy is within your ICTAP eligibility; 2) you apply under the instructions in the announcement; and 3) you are found well-qualified for this vacancy.
