Job Summary: 

The Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) provides operations support services and business solutions to the community of 10,000 House Members, Officers and staff. The CAO organization comprises more than 650 technical and administrative staff working in a variety of areas, including information technology, finance, budget management, human resources, payroll, child care, food and vending, procurement, logistics and administrative counsel.

This paid* Retail Inventory Specialist internship is responsible for supporting the Customer Service Manager with the daily operations of Office Supply Service by promoting effective inventory and merchandising support for the U.S. House of Representatives (House), Customer Experience Center (CEC). This support will aid in the successful annual inventory and merchandise planning and strategy for upcoming months. This intern will have the opportunity to see the day-to-day operations of a successful retail operation and see firsthand how we support the House. 

* paid at an annual rate of $36,834 not to exceed 120 days.

** The CAO standard business hours are 8:30 a.m.- 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week internship that will require onsite attendance in Washington, D.C.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities: 

·         Document, analyze, and re-engineer existing business processes (e.g., fulfillment, workflow, ecommerce)

·         Work with staff to receive and verify office supply and gift shop orders; perform inventory of on-hand merchandise; assist in stocking the sales floor; and customer outreach.

·         Assist in conducting periodic inventory of warehouse, HGS, or OSS items to provide timely and accurate data resolution and reconciliation.

·         Collaborate with teammates to successfully bridge the gap between technical, marketing, operations, and communications teams to implement enhancement projects.

·         Provide excellent customer support to all users, including senior-level Government leadership.

·         The successful candidate will complete the internship with a broad experience in retail inventory management and merchandise planning in a retail environment.

·         Provide additional program support services and other tasks as needed.

·         Performs other official duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

·         A student who has demonstrated skill in customer journey optimization to improve the end-to-end customer experience.

·         Currently an undergraduate student attending a college or university.

·         Observant; strong attention to detail.

·         Clear, concise communication and organizational skills.
