Duties

Help
  • You will ensure that the needed plans, blueprints, materials, and tools are available, and that needed stock is available to support planned work.
  • You will answer leaders' questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives and provide the needed information or decisions to the leader on issues/problems that arise during execution of work activities.
  • You will provide information to product and operations managers on the status and progress of work, causes of delays, and overall work operations or issues.
  • You will assure that safety practices and requirements are clearly communicated and followed by all personnel and that housekeeping rules and policies are adhered to ensure the safety of personnel and equipment.
  • You will plan work, plan assignments based on schedules, establish deadlines, coordinate work, and determine the number of workers needed to accomplish projects.
  • You will be responsible for a wide range of personnel matters concerning subordinates; i.e. performance ratings, leave requests, disciplinary actions, time, attendance and union related paperwork.
  • You will inspect the work of other High Voltage electricians, write and review reports and work sequences.

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.

Qualifications

1) Overseeing activities of work crews,
2) Passing along instructions, assigning tasks, gaining cooperation of others, and setting pace of work assignments;
3) Understanding of high voltage electric power, transformers, and distribution systems;
4) Reading circuit diagrams and performing troubleshooting layouts, completing installations, modifications, and repairs on high voltage systems;
5) Budgeting and planning concepts for long and short-term goals.

This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works indoors and outdoors. May be exposed to danger from explosions of equipment and cables in manholes and vaults, as well as danger from high voltage electrical shock, burns from solder, broken bones, cuts, and bruises. May be exposed to heat and noise when working in substations or power-generating facilities, to extremes of weather when working outdoors, and to unpleasant odors and wet slippery surfaces when working in manholes. May be subject to electrical burns while working around high voltage electrical lines, broken bones from falls from poles, and strains from awkward work positions. May be exposed to chemicals -such as insulation oil from transformers and oil switches.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Supervisor primarily works in an office setting or conducts site visits to oversee and evaluate the performance of high voltage electrician team crews as well the material condition of electrical distribution systems, components or facilities. Work requires bending, stooping, climbing, and standing for long periods while supervising the installing, repairing, and testing of electrical distribution systems and components.
