This position is being filled under the Pathways Internship Program. The program is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with paid work opportunities in agencies to explore Federal careers while still in school. The Internship provides managers a ready source of student employees and potential permanent employees upon completion of the program requirements. It also provides the student with work experience directly related to the curriculum studies or career goals while offering eligibility for non-competitive conversion to permanent employment upon completion. Duties include but not limited to:

  • Reviews undeliverable orders and payables to include outstanding balances, payments, delivery dates, amendments and proper costing.
  • Contacting services and the Financial Service Center regarding receiving report vacancies before processing the receiving reports.
  • Review and follow up on open invoices in the Invoice Payment Processing System.
  • Sets up employee profiles, travel plans, expense reports and accounting strings.
  • Reconcile agent cashier replenishments.
  • Record payments.

Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/02/2026.

Internship Program: To be eligible, applicants must be accepted for enrollment or currently enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in a qualifying educational institution, on a full or half-time basis as defined by the institution in which you are enrolled.

Eligibility requirements for the Pathways Internship Program:

To be eligible, applicants must be:

  • Accepted for enrollment or enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) at a qualifying educational institution, on at least a half-time basis (as defined by the institution); or
  • Accepted for enrollment or enrolled in a qualifying career or technical education program that awards a recognized postsecondary credential (such as a Registered Apprenticeship Program or Job Corps).

Under this program, an individual who needs to complete less than a half-time equivalent of an academic/vocational or technical course load immediately prior to graduating is still eligible.


GS-04 Level
Minimum Education Qualification Requirement:
Applicants must have 2 years above high school related to this position.
  • Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have completed 2 full academic years of post-high school study or an associate degree.
GS-05 Level
Minimum Qualification Requirement:
Applicants must have one full year of general experience related to this position. This experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level in the Federal Service.
  • General Experience: Examples of general experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Reviews records and documents, extracts information and data, and checks the accuracy and consistency of data. Recognize the similarities and differences in the types of transactions and entries. Utilizing Microsoft computer software such as Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, and Access. Or,
  • Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have completed 2 full academic years of post-high school study or an associate degree. Or,
  • Combination of Experience & Education: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an appropriate combination of experience and post-high school education.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
