Duties

Help
  • You will assist senior specialists in ensuring the availability of Cross Domain Solution (CDS) capabilities.
  • You will work on clearly defined segments of projects, such as performing routine system checks, applying pre-tested patches under supervision and gathering data for capacity analysis.
  • You will troubleshoot common and recurring performance issues, escalating more complex or unprecedented problems to the supervisor or a senior specialist for resolution.
  • You will perform routine system administration tasks for High-Performance Computing (HPC) and infrastructure systems, including user account management, system monitoring, and executing standard backup and recovery procedures.
  • You will resolve common operating system problems and assist senior specialists in troubleshooting more complex hardware and software issues.
  • You will follow established procedures and checklists to complete assignments.
  • You will assist in implementing security controls and applying patches to ensure system compliance with policies (e.g., IAVA/IAVB, STIG).
  • You will run vulnerability scans using standard tools and compiles reports for review by senior personnel.
  • You will correct well-documented security findings and assist in maintaining the security posture of assigned systems.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete the Counterintelligence (CI) scope polygraph examination.
  • This is a Cyberspace Workforce position, IT Specialist SYSADMIN/INFOSEC, proficiency level INTERMEDIATE the incumbent is required to obtain and maintain qualifications in DoDM 8140.03 Cyber Workforce Qualification and Department of Navy policies.
  • Operating System and/or technical certification(s]: LINUX+ and IAT certification: Security+
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

Qualifications

GS-11:
Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-09) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Experience performing basic administrative tasks on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems.
  • Experience running pre-written scripts (Bash or Python) and following standard operating procedures to respond to system alerts.
  • Experience and possess a basic understanding of server and user account management within a networked environment.
  • Experience and exposure to virtualization concepts and a demonstrated ability to follow documented troubleshooting steps are also required.
Your experience must reflect skill in the following areas: attention to detail, customer service, oral communication, and problem solving.

GS-12
Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-11) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

Education

GS-11:
Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

OR

Successful completion of 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

There are no educational substitutions for specialized experience for GS-12.
