Duties

Help

The purpose of this position is to act as the Aircraft Mechanic (Crew Chief) with responsibility for managing the operational readiness of one or more aircraft, and proficiency training of supported aviation unit personnel. Responsibilities include detailed technical oversight of individual aircraft's level of mission capabilities and projection of maintenance requirements to maintain individual aircraft operational readiness.

  • Manages, monitors or performs overall maintenance, servicing, inspections and documentation for one or more highly technical, high performance military aircraft.
  • Performs preflight, thru flight, and post-flight inspections and scheduled or unscheduled maintenance.
  • Serves as the technical authority to identify and advise on requirements for airframe, mechanical, electrical/environmental, avionics, engine, and pneudraulic repairs on assigned aircraft.
  • Observes and inspects performance of other workers work to insure compliance with applicable technical publications, directives and local policy.
  • Oversees ground movement of aircraft.
  • Ensures all aircraft documentation accurately reflects status and airworthiness of assigned aircraft.
  • Clears Red X status symbols on aircraft forms for work performed by others.
  • Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and support exercise.
  • Complies with safety, fire, security, environmental, and housekeeping regulations.
  • Ensures material and equipment are properly and safely maintained and protected.

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the ND Army National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a trial period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • You must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
  • The incumbent is required to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts parts and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing over 50 pounds.
  • The incumbent works inside and outside in inclement weather, on icy or slippery ramps, aircraft surfaces and work stands, and in temperature and humidity extremes.
  • Ability to establish effective professional working relationships with coworkers and customers, contributing to a cooperative working environment and successful accomplishment of the mission.
  • Irregular and/or compensatory hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.

QUALITY OF EXPERIENCE
Length of time is not of itself qualifying. Candidates' experience should be evaluated on the basis of duties performed rather than strictly on the rank of the individual; however, established compatibility criteria/assignments must be followed. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Applicant must possess the experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to use hand tools and test equipment, the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications.


SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicant must possess the required 36 months of specialized experience which includes: 1) Experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting, and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft; 2) Experience scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow; 3) Skill to serve as the technical authority to advise on, examine, and approve all airframe, mechanical, electrical, and pneudraulic repairs of assigned aircraft.

Airframe and Powerplant Certification preferred.
