Duties

Help

The primary purpose of this position is: The purpose of this position is to test, troubleshoot, inspect, modify and repair egress/jettison systems used on assigned aircraft; instruct reservists and other employees augmenting teams to accomplish repair, modification, removal or installation; serve as team leader of foregoing teams and accomplish operational tests of all components of said systems. Incumbent must meet all requirements of the Personal Reliability Program for a controlled position.
1. Accomplishes scheduled inspections of egress systems; Controls tools.
2. Troubleshoots egress and jettison systems on operational aircraft and aircraft undergoing repair, overhaul, and modification; Certifies work produced under the USAF Technical Order Program.
3. Performs operational (or simulated operational) tests of egress and canopy jettison systems to ensure proper operation of all components using canopy blow testers, specialized test gauges, and push/pull spring scales.
4. Complies with safety requirements and complies with security regulations, directives, and policies.
5. Cleans work area and equipment.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WS-6600 Armament Work Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of an Aircraft Ordinance Systems Mechanic.

JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Ability to use special and standard test equipment, gauges, hand tools, read and interpret instructions, specifications and blueprints; Ability to follow budgeting directives, instructions, and procedures and to maintain good memory skills, good judgment, and ingenuity.
2. Knowledge of shop mathematics and a variety of technical data such as manufacturers handbooks and specifications, technical orders, operating instructions and special instructions relative to explosive or incendiary device and safety precautions related thereto; Knowledge of egress and jettison systems used on assigned aircraft and the practices, methods, and processes necessary to test, troubleshoot, inspect, modify and repair them.
3. Practical knowledge of electrical and mechanical principles associated with egress and jettison systems.
4. Knowledge of applicable personnel, manpower, time, and attendance, and budgeting instructions, guidelines, and requirements; Knowledge of safety and security requirements as outlined in applicable safety standards, regulations and technical orders.
5. Skill in mental application required to plan and lay out work, to maintain alertness and concentration, or to maintain a certain degree of muscular and visual coordination; Ability to clean work area and/or job site upon completion of work.
6. Knowledge of tool, equipment, and materials accounting and security; Knowledge of USAF Technical Order Program and its procedures.

OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS:
1. This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Work schedule will be aligned to allow incumbent to fully participate in Unit Training Assemblies (UTA). The incumbent's regular assignments are ART duties; however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities
2. May be required to fly in commercial and military aircraft to perform temporary/permanent duty assignments.
3. May work uncommon tour of duty.
4. May be required to work overtime.
5. Performs other related duties as assigned.
6. This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
7. Incumbent must maintain PRP status as a condition of employment and must qualify for and maintain the appropriate security clearance as well as maintaining all other PRP requirements for a controlled position.
8. This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.

Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Near vision correctable at 13 inches to 16 inches to Jaeger 1 to 4. Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other. Both eyes required. Depth perception. Ability to distinguish basic colors. Ability to distinguish shades of color. Hearing (aid permitted). If it can be otherwise accommodated, a specific physical condition or impairment will not automatically disqualify a candidate.

This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are eligible for 15 days active duty tour each year for which military leave is granted with full civilian pay. Air Reserve units and members; are subject to immediate call to active duty in mobilization to meet a national emergency.
