Serves as a Library of Congress representative to visitors of the Library in person by providing information and responding to inquiries. Communicates with Library visitors and adapts information as needed for diverse visitors. Engage with visitors to provide information or respond to inquiries.

Communicate with visitors to reserve passes and register visitors for events. Controls access by collecting passes for access/tours or confirming reservations for events. 
Staffs the Information Kiosk and/or wayfinding posts to respond to inquiries and provide information. Trains lower grade staff on policies and procedures for visitor engagement and provides mentoring for new staff in public contact.
Performs data gathering, tracking, and reporting functions in support of operational planning and leadership decision-making. Maintains physical and electronic records of daily docent tour data, ensuring accurate documentation, organization, and retention within designated shared drives and tracking systems. Compiles, analyzes, and reports programmatic data to leadership for informal updates, strategic planning, and presentation purposes. 
Conducts exhibition tracking and visitor density analysis to assess object popularity, traffic flow, and engagement trends, providing findings and recommendations to appropriate offices to support exhibit planning, resource allocation, and visitor experience improvements.

Conducts guided and specialty tours through various areas of Library of Congress building and specific exhibition areas or to specialized groups and/or individuals. Provides guidance to Volunteer Docents or assists Volunteer Docents with tours and/or inquiries. Schedules and assists Volunteer Docents with daily tours. Makes recommendations for presentation modification or needs based upon visitor feedback.


Leads the development, implementation, and ongoing management of educational interpretive carts designed to enhance visitor engagement and support institutional learning objectives. Independently conceptualizes and develops educational themes and content, conducting extensive research to identify relevant interpretive materials, educational components, and engagement strategies. Collaborates with subject matter experts and staff across the institution to ensure historical, educational, and programmatic accuracy of cart content and materials. Train, and mentor volunteers and colleagues in the use, facilitation, and interpretation of educational carts, ensuring readiness and adherence to program standards. Maintains operational oversight of existing cart programs, including evaluating effectiveness, updating materials, and developing interpretive plans for each cart to ensure alignment with institutional goals, audience needs, and visitor engagement best practices.
Performs writing, research, and content development functions in support of volunteer education, staff preparedness, and organizational communications. Develops and authors educational study guides for inclusion in the volunteer educational catalog, ensuring volunteers and staff are equipped to accurately interpret institutional architecture, art, collections, and reading rooms for diverse audiences including visitors, dignitaries, VIPs, and Members of Congress.

 Produces written materials that translate complex subject matter into accessible, engaging, and informative educational resources aligned with institutional interpretive standards. Drafts and disseminates updates regarding new VEO programs, initiatives, and activities for inclusion in general staff newsletters to promote organizational awareness and internal communication. 
Updates VEO web content to reflect procedural changes, operational updates, and new visitor programming, ensuring timely, accurate, and accessible dissemination of information to visitors planning their visit to the Library of Congress.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Although it is the Library's policy to afford the maximum pay benefit to employees when setting rates of pay, a new appointee who has had no previous Federal service will generally be paid at step one of the grade.
