Help

Major duties include but are not limited to:

  • Ensures timely and proper distribution of supplies and materials in assigned areas to include sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instrument sets, and equipment.
  • Maintains stock levels, returns reusable supplies to the distribution area.
  • Monitors expiration dates, rotating stock to limit outdates and removing items from use required by outdates
  • Receives supplies including unpacking, uncrating from shipping cartons and storing items to ensure sterility and integrity of the supplies and material.
  • Informs personnel on new or changed items and supplies, current medical supply resources and shelf life.
  • Recommends revisions in stock levels as needed and communicates concerns related to supplies, equipment, procedures, working conditions, etc.
  • Reviews completed work to see that instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines have been met.
  • Resolves supply management issues including receiving requests, clarifying user requirements, explains delays, expedites deliveries, etc.
  • Defines and recognizes problems, collects applicable data and makes recommendations for a solution.
  • Utilizes knowledge of stock rotation, hazard alerts and recalls to ensure outdated or otherwise compromised supplies and material are removed from usage area.
  • Works with clinical and administrative personnel regarding administrative and medical supplies.
  • Works with customers and vendors to obtain information regarding clinical supplies.
  • Coordinates work activities to resolve operating issues pertaining to clinical and administrative supply management requirements.
  • Handles conflict and problems in dealing with customers.
  • Provides customers with consistent information according to established policies and procedures.
  • Distributes and balances workload among employees and assures completion of assigned work.
  • Instructs employees in specific tasks and job techniques and provides written instructions, reference materials and supplies.
  • Conducts on the job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures and practices.
  • Maintains current knowledge and answers questions of other employees on procedures, policies, directives, or other guidelines as necessary.
  • Reports to supervisor on performance, progress and training needs of employees, and on behavior problems or issues.
  • Validates accuracy of data in the automated system to maintain long-term stock management.
  • Utilizes the automated point of use inventory system (Omnicell or similar), as well as the parent inventory system to monitor issues and receipts in support of stock replenishment processes.
  • Enters information using the generic inventory package and validates the data.
  • Performs daily inventory of primary and secondary inventory points using bar code equipment and following the predetermined schedule.
  • Cleans assigned areas in accordance with aseptic principles as published in infection control guidelines, local Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Joint Commission standards as scheduled.

  • Physical Requirements: The work requires standing and walking during the entire workday, and frequent reaching, bending and lifting of supply packages (occasional weighing as much as 50 pounds). Work requires pushing loaded carts of medical supplies (weighing in excess of 100+ pounds). With proper assistance, moves heavier items' weighing over 40 pounds.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 06/25/2026.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

You may qualify based on your experience as described below:

  • Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade of GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: distributing supplies and materials, including sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instrument sets and equipment, to all areas of the facility; scanning, bar-coding, receiving, storing and distribution of supplies and materials; assists in training new employees; maintains current knowledge and answers questions on procedures, policies, etc.; maintains stock by pulling stock, replenishing stock, and maintaining records on stock levels; monitors expiration dates and rotates stock; cleans assigned areas in accordance with aseptic principles; and receives supplies and material into the facility.
