Duties

Help
  • You will perform a variety of skilled-craft methods, techniques, and processes to restore and maintain portions of aircraft exhibits and their components.
  • You will take steps to preserve exhibits and restore to original design features.
  • You will follow prescribed conservation measures with respect to historic materials and perform actual preservation and restoration.
  • You will repair and/or replace component which are deteriorate or missing.
  • You may be required to perform other duties as assigned by the Director, Deputy Director, or Department Head.
  • There is a requirement of Oxyacetylene, and electric TIG/MIG WELDING associated with this PD (TPAEP) that is imperative for the NNAM to maintain its restorative and repair capability of aircraft.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • There is a physical demands/requirement identified in the PD that involves considerable walking, stooping, standing and the ability to lift heavy items of up to 75 pounds.
  • There is a notification in the PD that identifies the work environment as exposure to dust, paint, and various chemical fumes and eye hazards when working in the Shop area.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the 05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  1. Applying basic knowledge of artifact conservation principles and methods to develop lists of needed construction materials;
  2. Following prescribed conservation measures with respect to historic materials and performing preservation and restoration techniques;
  3. Repairing and/or replacing component which are deteriorating or missing;
  4. Preserving exhibits and restoring to original design features.

Education

Successful completion of a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement

OR

Successful completion of one full year of graduate level education leading to a master's degree;

OR

A combination of education and experience as described above that equates to one year of experience
