Duties

Help
  • You will plan and execute troubleshooting and repair of high voltage distribution, controls and sub-station systems.
  • You will diagnose and determine corrective action necessary for power outages and malfunctions of all types.
  • You will interpret electrical, electronic and mechanical drawings.
  • You will use motor vehicles on on-paved or natural terrain void of roads and observe safety procedures to prevent damage to property and injury to self and others.
  • You will analyze and trouble shoot electrical issues on 12 KV breakers and circuitry within the system to determine which parts need repair.
  • You will implement installation of electrical equipment (e.g., transformers, capacitors, insulators, switches, circuit breakers, fuses, meters, etc.) to connect main distribution lines.
  • You will perform full service installation of home and industrial power supply
  • You will use electrical testing instruments such as meggers, micrometers, and ohmmeters to identify general fault location.
  • You will determine type of electrical tools, materials, and equipment needed to conduct methods of electrical installation and repairs.
  • You will replace and adjust mechanical contacts and tripping to control time delay intervals of circuit breakers and relays.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Selectee must possess a valid state driver's license and must be able to obtain and maintain Class A or B Commercial Driver's license.
  • Selectee works on assigned shift but is subject to call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to respond to emergencies and make repairs. Selectee may be required to work overtime.
  • Selectee may lift items up to 90 pounds or carry items up to 50 pounds.
  • Selectee performs work outside or indoors and is subject to temperature extremes and inclement weather conditions of all types. Work could result in mandatory 24 hour emergency call, and in close proximity to high voltage lines and equipment.
  • Work requires bending, stooping, climbing, reaching above the shoulders, strenuous pulling and pushing, and standing for long periods.
  • Selectee frequently works from aerial bucket trucks at heights of 100 feet and in trenches or manholes below ground level. Work may involve climbing water tanks or towers in excess of 200 feet.
  • This is a Mission-Essential position. In the event of a crisis situation of war, the incumbent must continue to perform assigned duties to support mission requirements until relieved by proper authority.
  • Work requires moderately heavy physical effort and considerable agility and dexterity in working in awkward and hard to reach places, and in tiring and uncomfortable positions for extended periods of time.
  • Selectee must have normal hearing and vision with or without corrective devices.
  • Selectee will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Incumbent must possess general mechanical skills and knowledge, and substantial skills in and knowledge of electronics and electronics principles. The work also includes testing, repair, and maintenance of electric generating equipment in auxiliary, electrical co-generation facilities.
