Duties

Help
  • Prepares and cooks a variety of food items that require simple processing, such as breakfast items, hamburgers, vegetables, soups, and sauces.
  • Performs various food preparation tasks including peeling, chopping, grinding, slicing, and dicing, and accurately weighs and measures ingredients according to standardized recipes.
  • Operates a range of kitchen equipment powered by gas, electricity, steam, or microwave heat sources, and is responsible for its cleaning and basic maintenance.
  • Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of all equipment and work areas, including worktables, floors, and refrigerators, adhering to established schedules and procedures.
  • Ensures food is handled and stored at correct temperatures to prevent bacterial growth and follows all established sanitation protocols.

  • Work involves continual standing and walking, frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending.
  • Must be able to lift or move objects up to 40 pounds unassisted, and occasionally lift or move objects weighing over 40 pounds with the assistance of other workers or lifting devices.
  • This position requires a favorably adjudicated T1/NACI background investigation.
  • A physical examination, arranged by the employer, is required prior to employment.
  • Management reserves the right to reassign employees to other facilities.

A qualified candidate must possess the following:

  • experience preparing basic food dishes, storing foods to prevent spoiling, etc., AND
  • ability to follow written and verbal instructions, particularly standard recipes, and detailed cooking instructions, AND
  • ability to operate, disassemble and clean basic food service equipment such as griddles, broilers, and food grinders, AND
  • ability to perform basic arithmetic (e.g., add, subtract, multiply etc...) to measure ingredients in a recipe.

Allowances and Differentials
  • This job falls under the Federal Wage Schedule (FWS) pay system. FWS employees earn overtime pay for working more than 8 hours a day or more than 40 hours a week -- whichever gives the employee more benefit. Regular full-time, regular part-time, and regularly scheduled flexible employees may receive Sunday premium pay for working on Sundays. This is NOT a regularly scheduled Flexible position as it has no guaranteed hours. Employees may also be eligible to receive extra pay if the majority of their scheduled hours fall after 3:00 PM.
  • Non-foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will NOT be paid.

Army Tank-Automotive and Armament Command (TACOM)

The Watervliet Arsenal is in Watervliet, New York. It is an Army-owned and operated manufacturing center and is located about 160 miles north of New York City, NY on the western bank of the Hudson River. It is the oldest, continuously active arsenal in the United States having begun operations in 1813. Today it is relied upon by U.S. and foreign militaries to produce the most advanced, high-powered weaponry for cannon, howitzer, and mortar systems. The Arsenal is the only location in the Department of Defense that has a weapons research facility (Benet Laboratories) co-located with a manufacturing facility (Arsenal).
