Duties

Help
  • You will Performs electronic, electrical and electro-mechanical inspections, and mechanical inspections, pre-arrival and material condition assessment inspections.
  • You will provide in-process, product, pre-test, test inspections, certification and acceptance of completed work reviews on nuclear reactor plant, refueling, and overhaul work.
  • You will be responsible for passing on instructions received from the supervisor; working with other inspectors; demonstrating proper work methods and leading by example.
  • You will ensure that needed plans, materials and tools are available; obtaining needed information or decisions from supervisors on problems that come up.
  • You will maintain a current knowledge and answering questions of other workers on procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives (for example, technical orders).
  • You will see to it that there is enough work to keep everyone in the inspection crew busy; check inspections while in progress and when finished, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been met.
  • You will advise other incumbents to follow instructions received from supervisors to meet deadlines; and ensure that safety and housekeeping rules are followed.
  • You will perform receipt inspection, pre-use inspection and marking verification of naval nuclear material ensuring proper material control and traceability is maintained.
  • You will ensure reactor grade cleanliness is maintained in accordance with local directives as required by NAVSEA specifications for reactor plant cleanliness.
  • You will maintain records of inspections performed, results of these inspections and corrective action taken in accordance with local directives.
  • You will ensure that during the performance of the preceding duties, due consideration is given to the safety of ships, equipment, and personnel.
  • You will perform surveillances of ongoing or completed work to ensure compliance with all applicable directives. This requires the know-how, where to go, and how to perform a surveillance of all nuclear trades.

  • This position may require travel to places within and outside the contiguous United States which could include remote or isolated sites. You may be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • If eligible for permanent change of station, the appointee will be required to sign a transportation agreement to establish a Government time in service requirement of 12 months.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.
  • May be required to obtain a VISA dependent on the overseas country's laws/regulations.
  • You will be required to sign the Statement of Understanding for Overseas Employment acknowledging receipt and understanding of the statement of living and working conditions for this location.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • The incumbent will be required to meet the physical and training requirements to become a qualified radiation worker.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • The incumbent must be able to perform inspections in confined spaces for prolonged periods of time in standing, stooping, or crouching positions which would cause muscular fatigue or physical strains.
  • The incumbent must possess normal color sensitivity, muscular coordination, visual acuity, and be able to make decisions in unusual situations. Work may require lifting, and/or carrying, generally not in excess of forty-four pounds.

A. Experience performing electronic, electrical and electro-mechanical inspections, pre-arrival and material condition assessment inspections, in-process, product, pre-test, test inspections, certification and acceptance of completed work reviews on nuclear reactor plant, refueling, and overhaul work; experience ensuring proper material control and traceability is maintained and independently initiating and authorizing rejection of workmanship, components, materials, and procedures that do not meet specifications.
B. Experience performing receipt inspection, pre-use inspection and marking verification of naval material; performing surveillance of ongoing or completed work to ensure compliance with all applicable directives; and authorizing rejection of workmanship, components, materials, and procedures that do not meet specifications.
C. Experience inspecting work products; determining work sequence for inspections determining that work products are within acceptable standards, specifications, or requirements; experience checking for compliance with accepted trade practices and making determinations to accept or reject work products
