Duties

Help
  • Provide technical guidance and performance management to subordinate police officers.
  • Formulate long-range operation plans by analyzing workload trends to ensure mission readiness.
  • Advise Command leadership on law enforcement issues to develop effective operational solutions.
  • Oversee emergency response situations in accordance with federal, state, and local laws and law enforcement standards.
  • Prepare performance ratings to evaluate, support staff development, and counsel key Police Department personnel.
  • Coordinate joint law enforcement activities with state and local agencies to exchange critical information.

  • Incumbent must have successfully graduated, unless a waiver is approved, from the United States Army Military Police School Civilian Police Academy.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled.
  • Currently possess a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
  • One year supervisory probationary period required to assess ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time. To provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Due to the nature of this position, both planned and unscheduled overtime are required. Shift work required to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Successfully pass certification and qualification requirements training, certification and qualification requirements weapons qualifications, first aid/CPR and National Incident Management System (NIMS) training requirements.
  • Pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 30 days of hire date and annually thereafter and comply with requirements of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP).
  • The incumbent of this position is expected to obtain and maintain a Government motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or in judicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
  • Possess a functioning telephone to aid in contact during recall/emergency situations.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes leading law enforcement personnel engaged in the protection of life and property; developing law enforcement policies and/or training programs; conducting comprehensive reviews of staffing actions in accordance with established regulations to ensure organizational compliance and investigative reports against established procedures and regulations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
