As a Dietitian, you will:

  • Be responsible for the timely nutritional evaluation and for assessment of residents admitted to the medical areas
  • Be responsible for developing and implementing nutritional screening on every resident of AFRH
  • Plan cycle therapeutic diet menus and analyze nutritional content of regular and modified diets
  • Be responsible for developing, planning and implementing the required manuals and documentation to meet the dietary standards for Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement. The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/day/year, and indicate number of hours worked per week on your résumé.

Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR):
Applicants must meet one of the three following requirements:

  • Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in the fields of dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science. The educational program must have been accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For dietitian positions, the curriculum must have been in accordance with the qualifying requirements established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) (formerly American Dietetic Association (ADA) prior to January 1, 2012) in effect at the time of graduation.; OR
  • Completion of a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or other clinical component approved by American Dietetic Association (formerly ADA) for dietitians or nutritionists.; OR
  • Professional registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).
AND

Specialized Experience for the GS-11: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
  • Directing specialized activities of the food service management administrative function in food quality control, food safety/sanitation, and dietetic services.
Examples of qualifying experience include:
  • Conducting nutritional assessments including dietary history and laboratory test for each patient to accurately assess metabolic needs;
  • Conducting nutritional education;
  • Developing or modifying teaching materials;
  • Ensuring provision of acceptable and nutritionally adequate meals for all residents with established budgetary and ration allowances.
OR you may substitute education for specialized experience as follows:
  • Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or
  • 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree.
OR you may qualify by a combination of experience and education:
To combine education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the requirement must equal at least 100% percent. Only graduate level education in excess of the first 36 semester hours (54 quarter hours) may be combined to be considered for qualifying education.

SPECIAL NOTE: Long-term care experience and/or interacting with geriatric patients is highly desired.

  • Wear required safety clothing and/or equipment required by the position. This may include safety shoes, hard hats, hearing protection, gloves, masks, etc.
  • Because the AFRH's mission requires uninterrupted, direct human support and medical care for its Residents, this position is considered essential for continuing AFRH operations. Therefore, the incumbent is expected to arrive for duty on time, as scheduled, and to complete the assigned tour during emergency situations such as hazardous weather.
