Duties

Help

  • Perform work involving the management and control of a variety of construction, stabilization, repair, restoration, and accessibility projects.
  • Represents the NPS and works within a multidisciplinary team of architects, engineers, conservators, preservation specialists, historians, environmental specialists, natural resource specialists, and technical support personnel to plan, execute, monitor, and track the completion of park.
  • Provides comprehensive advisory and technical services on a variety of park projects and is responsible for independently planning and carrying out project assignments, adapting guidelines for application to specific issues or problems, analyzing the results, and recommending changes.
  • Oversees the preparation/review of needed project documentation such as daily work logs, material submittals, project schedules, and other applicable documents.

  8. You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
  9. This position requires the incumbent to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of their official duties. Selectee must hold and maintain a valid state driver's license throughout their employment in this position.
  10. You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 1-3 nights per month.
  11. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
  12. You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-06/18/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. In order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the closing date of the announcement. To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement.

EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-10 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes all of: Engineering aid or technician or surveying technician performing work directly related to construction; OR Construction inspector or construction representative responsible for interpreting plans and specifications, inspecting materials and workmanship, and insuring adherence to safety requirements; OR Supervisor of craft persons, equipment operators, or mechanics engaged in construction work, provided that the experience involved responsibility for interpreting plans and specifications and inspecting workmanship for adherence to such plans and specifications. You must include hours per week worked


Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 for each federal position listed as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of qualifying experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. Failure to adequately provide information needed to determine number of hours worked in each position may result in that time not being credited when evaluating qualifying experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Time In Grade Requirement: Applicants must meet both eligibility and qualification requirements for the position of interest by the closing date of the JOA. Specifically,
i. Area of Consideration.
ii. Time-in-grade (TIG) requirements as specified in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F.
iii. Time after competitive appointment as specified in 5 CFR 330.502.iv. Qualification requirements outlined in OPM's Qualifications Standards for General Schedule Positions

Physical Demands: A significant percentage of time in this position is spent performing on-site inspection and coordination of construction and engineering work required for construction projects. This work involves physical demands including but not limited to, walking, bending, stooping, etc. A smaller percentage of the work is of sedentary nature. Although most of the sites are within a day's trip from the office, some project activities may require overnight stays.

Work Environment: A significant portion of the work takes place in the outside environment. The outside weather ranges from dry and dusty to rainy and from hot to cold; in wooded areas, under seashore/ocean conditions and urban conditions. The sedentary portion of the work is performed in an office setting. Some hazards may be encountered, typical of any construction project while others may be typical to historic structures and landscapes that have been poorly maintained.
