Duties

Help
  • Serve as a working leader of Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic employees.
  • Provide information to supervisor on status and progress of work, causes of delays, and overall work operations and problems.
  • Advise and provide guidance to team members on policies and procedures, written instructions, and other directives.
  • Ensure safety and housekeeping rules are followed.
  • Analyze and repair electronic malfunctions of direct computer controls, dedicated computer controls, soft wired controls, and other complex controlling elements.
  • Determine from nature of malfunction the circumstances under which it occurred the sequence of symptoms leading to final breakdown and most probable points in the system where the malfunction exists.
  • Service and repair mechanical and photocell tape readers, module testers, and printed circuit board testers.
  • Delegate and distribute workload to crews/employees.
  • Apply extensive knowledge in the disassembly and assembly of complex computerized equipment in order to get to the source of malfunction.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Subject to pre-employment and annual physical examination. The incumbent is required to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • This position MAY require shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.

Qualifications

Position may be filled as a time-limited promotion, reassignment or change to lower grade not to exceed (NTE) 12 months by a current permanent Army employee. Time-limited promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years. Time-limited reassignments and changes to lower grade may exceed five years, however return rights may be impacted. Position may be made permanent without further competition.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to lead through subordinate supervisors as a Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic Leader without more than normal supervision. The work of the position normally includes: analyzing and repairing electronic malfunctions of direct computer controls, dedicated computer controls, soft-wired controls, and other complex controlling elements of a wide variety of numerical control (NC), multi-axis machining centers and machine tools; and utilizing a variety of sophisticated test equipment (e.g. dual trace oscilloscopes, recording oscillographs, capacity analyzers, vacuum tube testers, signal generators, plug-in module tester and DC power supplies). - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Efforts: Frequently handles objects weighing between 20 and 40 pounds, occasionally carrying them considerable distances. Required to lift, bend, stoop, push, and pull items/equipment for sustained periods of time.
  • Working Conditions: Works inside, in areas that are excessively noisy, dirty, greasy, and oily. Constantly exposed to sharp moving objects, pressures up to 2,200 pounds per square inch, and electrical systems with up to 440 volts of alternating current (AC) and 600 volts of direct current (DC).
