Duties

Help
  • Plan and coordinate requirements and complex projects to maintain patient care buildings.
  • Prepare initial project scopes, descriptions, and justifications for necessary facility modifications when existing infrastructure cannot support valid mission requirements.
  • Apply appropriate standards and maintenance procedures for several different building types with various medical functions considering age, occupancy, technology, and requirements of multi-story and specialized construction.
  • Plan and estimate job orders for repair, alterations, equipment installation, and construction of facilities which are considered of urgent or high value.
  • Manage preventive maintenance, repair, and construction work to sustain safe and reliable operation of patient care buildings, equipment, and utilities.
  • Oversee facility management resources including personnel, service contracts, financial programs, space utilization, and information resources.
  • Budget and execute facility management financial programs that often require frequent modifications, additions for new equipment site preparation, and service modifications, while preventing waste and abuse in execution.
  • Prepare performance work statements, identify deficient service contractor or civil engineer personnel performance, assess operational impact, and initiate timely corrective action.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • One-year supervisory probationary period required. A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 45 pounds may be required.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: coordinating facility maintenance and operations activities within a healthcare, medical treatment, or similar complex facility; preparing project scopes, statements of work, and cost estimates for moderately complex facility repair, alteration, or renovation projects; conducting inspections or tracking data to support compliance with safety regulations (e.g., OSHA) and environmental guidelines; and providing technical guidance, serving as a team lead, or assisting in the oversight of work performed by technical staff or contractors. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
