Help
  • Manage District natural resources management and environmental programs and policies governing the use of land, water and related resources
  • Implement the policies and procedures for effective management and execution of the Natural Resources Management Program
  • Provide expert advice on the execution of the Natural Resources Management Program, to include all aspects of natural resources conservation, preservation, restoration use, recreation opportunities, and visitor assistance
  • Render expert technical advice and guidance on unusual, controversial or complex natural resource management and environmental compliance problems
  • Serve as liaison with other organizational elements; Federal, State and local governmental agencies; private interest groups and the general public in support of program section activities and responsibilities
  • Perform the full range of administrative and technical Supervisory duties
  • Assign work based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of the assignment and the capabilities of employees
  • Direct employees and team members in the implementation of functional responsibilities of the Natural Resources Program
  • Assure that operating lakes and river projects achieve and maintain compliance with the wide array of laws and regulations dealing with preservation, environmental protection, hazardous and toxic materials management, and pollution abatement

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Minimum Qualifications GS-13:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service which includes 1) direct natural resource management programs including recreation and environmental compliance initiatives in accordance sustainable public land use and absolute adherence to federal guidelines, 2) apply complex biological science principles to the strategic planning and management of specialized natural resource programs such as forestry, fish and wildlife, and wetland restoration to drive ecosystem preservation and long-term project sustainability, and 3) analyze environmental data and project metrics to guarantee that all active engineering and operations strictly complied with a wide array of federal, state, and local environmental regulations.

In addition to these requirements, incumbent must meet the Individual Occupational Requirements below:

Basic Requirement for Natural Resource Specialist:

  1. Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

    OR

  2. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.



Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
