Duties

Help

Design, make, alter, and repair garments according to Marine Corps and military standards. Properly measure and fit Marine Corps and other military uniforms. Fit and study garments on customers to determine required alterations. Record required alterations on uniforms/garments. Examine tags on garments to determine alterations that are needed. Fit, alter, repair and make made-to-measure clothing, according to customers and clothing manufacturers¿ specifications and fit and apply principles of garments design, construction, and styling. Possess knowledge of design techniques, tools and principles involved in production of uniforms. 

Acknowledges customers, smiles and makes eye contact.  Ask questions to determine, verify and solve problems.  Checks for satisfaction with the quality of goods and services.  Takes action to solve problems quickly.  Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise.  Adheres to safety regulations and standards.  Uses required safety equipment and observes safe work procedures. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor.

Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. 

Performs other related duties as assigned.

RESPONSIBILITY: Serves as tailor capable of altering, creating and tailoring Marine Corps uniforms in a timely and accurate manner.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Sits or stands for long period at worktable. Continually uses arms, fingers and hands in positioning material. Some walking and stopping is required and at times the incumbent will be required to lift up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close, vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work in enclosed area that is adequately lit, ventilated and heated. The incumbent is subject to punctures, cuts and other minor injuries from pins and sharp instruments. Exposed to noise from sewing machines.

Qualifications

High School graduate or equivalent. Two to three years¿ experience in alterations. Must be able to have basic computer skills. Must be able to read, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write clear, simple correspondence. Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
