Summary

The Laundry Worker must utilize proper technique in distributing and picking up linen to prevent cross-contamination.
Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Processing, delivering, issuing, pickup, and storage of linen and employee uniforms.
Fills linen carts with required amounts of linen in accordance with established quotas and adjusts quotas when appropriate.
Delivers clean linen to clinical areas throughout the VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System.
Counts incoming linen and reports discrepancies to appropriate supervisor.
Maintains uniform records.
Issue uniforms to new employees.
Stamp uniforms and various garments using various types of heat press machines.
Collecting, record safekeeping, and delivering patient effects.
Keeps work area, linen carts, and bins in a clean, sanitary condition.
Performs other related duties as assigned, and as required due to emergency situations or staff shortages.

Physical Requirements: The incumbent is required to push and/or pull heavy racks or carts of linen on rollers in the linen room and throughout the Medical Center. The incumbent is required to be his or her feet the majority of the time, and must be able to bend, squat, lift, and climb ladders. Most of the jobs require workers to frequently lift bundles weighing 25 pounds; however, in receiving and shipping; occasional lifting of bulk bundles weighing over 50 pounds is required.
Working Conditions: The incumbent may be assigned to an early shift or a late shift, weekends, and holidays. The incumbent will perform work on concrete floors. Must always be safety conscious, especially to pedestrian traffic while moving linen carts. Follows all Medical Center safety and traffic regulations. Pays particular attention to broken equipment, slippery floors, safety and fire hazards. Immediately reports hazards/malfunctions to supervisor. The incumbent performs the majority of work indoors but is occasionally subjected to inclement weather when driving to outlying clinics. Is exposed to heat, humidity, noise, bacteria, and odors. There is a possibility of bodily injury through slipping on wet ramps when loading and unloading linen carts. Accuracy in delivering clean linen carts is required.
