This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

Help
  • Operate a wide variety of powered equipment and hand tools.
  • Assemble items with a variety of joining techniques such as miters, rabbets, dados, and mortise and tenon.
  • Use wood, metal, and various composite materials when installing or replacing interior partitions, flooring, panels, suspended ceilings, counter tops, and moldings.
  • Interpret drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine the layout and work sequences and material requirements.
  • Apply coating materials with any of the accepted trade devices including those designed to give special effects such as brushes, rollers, and spray guns.
  • Prepare surfaces by methods such as smoothing with abrasive compounds, pumice and sandpaper, filling, shaping, and leveling with metal and synthetic resins, plastics, and patching compounds.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal Influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal Influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Maintenance Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common maintenance and repair activities at a facility. I can construct, install, repair, and modify wood and wood substitute structures and items. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: Incumbent lifts, carries, and handles equipment up to 50 pounds unassisted and over 50 pounds with assistance. Works from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, or cramped areas where equipment, parts, or tools are hard to reach. Work frequently requires standing, stooping, stretching, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring, uncomfortable positions for extended periods. In addition, work involves frequent movement and maneuvering of large, heavy furniture and equipment.

Working Conditions: The work is accomplished both inside and outside. When working outside, incumbent may be exposed to hot sun, and dusty conditions for extended periods of time and occasionally to bad weather. Outside work may be performed in marsh areas. Inside work is often accomplished in structural areas with minimum ventilation and/or limited access. Discomfort may be experienced while wearing protective clothing, respirators, goggles, or face masks for extended periods of time. Works near moving equipment and machinery, energized electrical circuits, sharp metal edges, loud noises, and eye hazardous areas.
