Summary

Duties

Help

Incumbents typical work assignments may include the following:

  • Expedites priority items through the supply and procurement process by coordinating with customers and vendors, tracking material movement, and arranging for expedited delivery to support customer requirements.

  • Receives and inspects priority materials for various Pentagon organizations, checking for appropriate quantity and condition, and utilizes the Dockmaster Integrated Tracking System (ITS) for creating receipts and obtaining material status.

  • Operates electric, gasoline, or diesel-powered forklift trucks (lifting under 10,000 pounds) and motor vehicles ranging from 1/4-ton pickup trucks to 5-ton flatbed trucks to load, deliver, and transport equipment and supplies.

Qualifications

Your background must demonstrate a full range of
material expediting duties with a high degree of independence. My experience includes (1) coordinating with customers and vendors to resolve material shortages, (2) using automated systems like the Dockmaster Integrated Tracking System (ITS) to track priority items and prepare reports; and (3) ensuring the proper receipt, storage, and security of sensitive materials, including Controlled Cryptographic Items (CCI).

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the questions. The screen-out element for this position is Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision

JOB ELEMENTS: Those who meet the minimum level of experience and training for the screen-out element will then be evaluated in each of the following job elements:

  • Knowledge of Materials

PHYSICAL EFFORT/REQUIREMENTS: Stands, stoops, bends, and works in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May be required to work at a rapid pace for prolonged periods. Frequently lifts and carries material weighing up to 45 pounds, and at times may handle items weighing over 45 pounds. Moderate physical effort is used in operating trucks and forklift hand and foot controls while driving, turning, starting, stopping, raising, lowering, and tilting loads being moved.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Regularly exposed to possible injury associated with handling equipment. Work is usually performed indoors in well-lighted and ventilated holding areas or shop areas. May be exposed for short periods to outdoor conditions. Regularly exposed to shop noises, dirt, dust, fumes, and vibrations. May be required to wear protective clothing such as steel toed shoes, safety glasses, or gloves.

Education cannot be substituted for experience.
