• Serve as the Medical Emergency Manager (MEM) and technical advisor to the Military Treatment Facility commander.
• Manage policies and procedures to ensure accomplishment of programs and to find ways to improve quality, timeliness, and efficiency of work.
• Develop criteria for exercise contingency responses plans, checklists, program reviews, and quality assurance reviews.
• Ensure budget for equipment/supplies and training for response are forecasted and executed for the various readiness response teams.
• Plan and manage the Medical Readiness Training Program.
• Prepare and maintain the Annual Medical Readiness Training and Exercise Schedule (MRTES) and ensure the Military Treatment Facility meets training and exercise requirements.

• Moderate to heavy lifting up to 35 pounds may be required.
• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
• This position may require the incumbent to work during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Basic Requirements for Medical Readiness Specialist:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing guidance for a variety of emergency situations; developing criteria for exercising contingency response plans; and monitoring emergency response program operations to ensure action requirements are met. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

OR

Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Emergency Management, Medical Emergency Services or Public Health Administration.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
