Duties

Help
  • Ensures protection of U.S. Government personnel, information, operations, and critical assets by safeguarding highly sensitive/special access areas where there is potential for significant breach of national security.
  • While on the station desk, incumbent serves as initial point of contact for all activities requiring police action; as well as complainants filed.
  • Updates and maintains Police Blotter through accurate and detailed entries.
  • Conducts daily inventories of keys, sensitive items, and Arms, Ammunition, and Explosives (AAE).
  • Responds to, investigates, and resolves most emergency calls, complaints and other calls for service, independently with little supervision.
  • Leads team of Police personnel at the GS-7 level or next lower grade, assures the timely accomplishment of law enforcement reports and related force protection work.
  • Utilizes a broad knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques of law enforcement, physical security, and force protection work during terrorist driven actions, natural disasters, and national emergencies.

  • Position may be filled as a time-limited promotion, reassignment or change to lower grade not to exceed (NTE) 1 year by a current permanent Army employee.
  • Time-limited promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years. Time limited reassignments and changes to lower grade may exceed five years, however return rights may be impacted. Position may be made permanent without further competition.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must meet all training requirements and conditions of employment IAW AR 190-56.
  • Incumbent will be required to successfully complete a medical examination prior to employment and annually thereafter to include drug detection urinalysis and determination of mental and emotional stability.
  • Incumbent will be subject to the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP).
  • Incumbent will be required to pass a physical agility test.
  • Incumbent will be required to qualify with assigned weapons and to familiarize with special weapons commensurate with the duties assigned.
  • Under Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs, position is subject to pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position is subject to the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
  • Incumbent must work rotating shifts and other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees may be required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • Incumbent must wear police officer uniform and is required to use protective clothing or gear such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, shields, body armor, and maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid NYS Motor Vehicle License.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • Will be subject to less than lethal weapons (OC pepper spray certification).
  • Incumbent must graduate from the Department of the Army Civilian Police (DACP) Academy and successfully complete the Field Training Officer (FTO) Program within one year of hire, depending on course availability and/or funding.
  • Incumbent must complete initial and annual CPR certification and first aid within one year of hire, depending on course availability and/or funding.
  • This position is designated as Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other emergency type situations (natural/man-made disaster) you are required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operation.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) Responding to emergency and non-emergency calls for service; (2) Performing law enforcement duties such as: collecting evidence, conducting searches, issuing tickets, administering first aid, and/or enforcing traffic laws; (3) Enforcing laws to protect personnel and property; and (4) Utilizing computer-based systems to prepare a variety of reports pertaining to law enforcement operations such as: sworn statements, affidavits, incidents, citations, and/or criminal investigations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-07.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
