Duties

Help

  • Responsible for the economic and efficient operation and supervision of a full-service club which includes dining services, bar services, catering services as well as operations related to all catering requests and events and entertainment programs.
  • Implements higher level directives, formulates procedures and programs to ensure high standards of food and beverage, recreational and entertainment/promotional programs.
  • Establishes, reviews, and evaluates menu planning, catering and food service, purchase of supplies, equipment and materials.
  • Participates with the Food and Beverage Director, NF-4, in establishing financial goals commensurate with market analysis of the area.
  • Adheres to proper military and civilian protocol, and coordinates with military and civilian leadership in connection with Club activities.
  • Plans, organizes work and manages internal resources to ensure maximum productivity and economies.
  • Assists in preparing financial plans and budgets; prepares inventories, cost controls, and related records and reports.
  • Effectively supports the Navy's Equal Employment Opportunity policy, and ensures compliance with fire, safety, security, sanitation, and other environmental issues.
  • Manages new property resource and provides advice on renovations and improvements.
  • Must be alert to alcohol abuse and take appropriate action.
  • Maintains and enforces security for MWR funds, merchandise, supplies, equipment, and property to preclude or minimize the potential for fraud, waste, and abuse.
  • The needs and desires of the customers are being met.
  • Sound business management practices are being applied. (Activities monitored include menu planning; food quality and service program; purchase of food, beverages, supplies, and equipment; merchandising efforts' and recreational and entertainment activities).
  • Directly supervises and monitors approximately 12 to 15 staff members ranging from series and pay bands of NF2s, NA5s, NA6s, NA8s.
  • Involved in the Club operations and catering services of special events by giving detailed directions and specific instructions as it related to Food and Beverage operations. This includes but is not limited to: Metting with Cook Supervisors, duty managers, and other MWR activity managers to arrange final details for club events and catering service functions.
  • Manages activity employees either directly or indirectly through subordinate supervisors.
  • Trains, schedules work, appraises performance, counsels assigned personnel, and recommend personnel actions.
  • Approves/Signs off employee timecards and approve leave of absence requetss in the absence of the F&B Director.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Must currently hold or will be able to attain the most current versions of ServSafe Alcohol Safety, Safe Food Handling, Allergens, and Food Safety, Manager Certification via CNIC-U LMS and proctor certifications within 3 months of hire.
  • Must be able to satisfactorily complete a T1 level investigation with a favorable adjudication
  • Work is predominantly indoor with some outdoor environment; indoor work is generally evening shift club operations with bar activity and performed in an adequately heated and ventilated facility.
  • Outdoor work is subject to fair or inclement weather conditions, involves vehicular travel to activity sites and is subject to the usual physical exertions and minor injuries caused by walking, climbing, or bending.

Qualifications

  • 1 year of experience as a supervisor or manager of a Food and Beverage Operation OR
  • 1 year of Specialized experience one grade below GS-7 equivalent.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Federal, DOD, and DON club policies, regulations, administrative practices, and procedures related to Food and Beverage planning, budgeting, scheduling, and coordinating the club's social and recreational programs and for the efficient operations and use of assigned facilities and equipment.
  • Must have knowledge of general business practices and administration as it applies to the catering and restaurant industry and the ability to effectively apply this knowledge to the daily operations of the position.
  • Knowledge of the fundamental principles and techniques involved in club operations and catering and beverage service management for the Food and Beverage program.
  • Knowledge of proper military protocol and decorum extended to general officers, commanders, their guests, and dignitaries.
  • Knowledge of quality food service, preparation, presentation, and development to supervise an effective, attractive, sanitary food and beverage program targeted to the membership of the branch.
  • Ability to apply management practices and techniques to ensure efficient utilization of equipment and facilities.
  • Practical working knowledge or the ability to absorb data processing systems and software programs such as Caterease, Windows, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Symphony POS, SAP, Kronos, etc., and the ability to utilize the systems effectively, maintaining and processing Retail Program source documents, financial records/report and other administrative reports.
  • Ability to competently and independently carry out all phases of the program by applying principles and techniques of restauranters to the specific needs of the program.

Education

This position does not have an education qualification requirement.

Additional information

Selection may be tentative pending the completion of the satisfactory employment reference checks.

Selectee may be required to complete a one (1) year probationary period.

Participation in the Direct Deposit/Electronic Fund Transfer is required.
