NON-APPROPRIATED FUND POSITION DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE:     Bowling Equipment Repairer       

JOB SERIES:  4819                                                                                      PAY LEVEL:  NA-7

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Installs, repairs, overhauls, and regularly inspects bowling facility electrical, mechanical, and computerized equipment which includes, but is not limited to:  automatic pinsetters, automatic ball returns, speed cradle stops, telescore units, automatic ball cleaners/polishers, lane maintenance machines, hole borers, automatic pin cleaners, and etc. 

Establishes a regular preventive maintenance schedule according to suggested manufacturer's recommendations, adjusting as necessary.

Diagnoses malfunctioning equipment referring to manufacturer's diagrams and specifications, schematics, and wiring diagrams using test equipment such as continuity testers, voltmeters, ohmmeters, and feeler gauges.

Disassembles and replaces or repairs mechanical and electrical components or parts using soldering irons, wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, and other hand tools.  Cleans and lubricates machines.  Measures and regulates sweep of rake on automatic pinsetters using hand tools and gauges.  Runs automatic pinsetter through complete cycle and inspects for pin-setting accuracy. Inspects bowling lanes and approaches daily ensuring they are prepared in accordance with appropriate technical manuals. 

Performs required regularly scheduled daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual maintenance services. Maintains, rotates and cleans bowling pins recommending replacement as necessary.

Oversees the work of one or more lower graded workers engaged in minor repair, cleaning or lubricating equipment, keeping them informed of any operation and maintenance changes. Conducts on-the-job training for mechanic trainees and bowling equipment workers. 

Maintains required records and reports. Orders parts and maintains stock levels for parts necessary on all equipment. Ensures that parts are charged against proper machine and spare parts inventory is properly maintained. Keeps supervisor advised of all maintenance problems and cost factors. Prepares and submits reports of parts used, cost, machines serviced and reasons for any variance in usual operations. 

Conducts daily fire and safety inspections. Ensures all flammables and hazardous materials are handled under approved conditions and properly stored to guard against fire and safety hazards. As assigned, performs safety officer duties, immediately reporting any hazards, improperly working safety equipment, of failure to use safety equipment by any staff member to the supervisor. Maintains work area in a clean and orderly state.  

Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy.  Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner.  Acknowledges customers, smiles and makes eye contact.  Asks questions to determine, verify and solve problems.  Checks for satisfaction on the quality of goods and services.  Takes action to solve problems quickly.  Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise. 

Adheres to safety regulations and standards.  Uses required safety equipment, and observes safe work procedures. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor.

Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment. 

Performs other related duties as assigned.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must be at least 18 years old AND have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school;
    OR
    Have completed a formal vocational training program;  
    OR
    Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with preference for employment rather than continuing education.
    (Valid documentation will be required upon hire.)
  2.  Must be able to lift and carry objects up to 40 lbs independently and may occasionally push or pull larger assemblies weighing up to 45 kilograms (100 pounds); perform frequent bending, climbing, stooping, and working in awkward positions.
  3. Must be able to accommodate an irregular work schedule which may include nights, weekends, and holidays
  4. Must be able to obtain GOV (Government Owned Vehicle) license as required by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must have knowledge of mechanical and electrical/electronic principles and operating characteristics of bowling equipment and have the ability to locate malfunctions through visual, operational, audio and standard test equipment checks.  
  2. Must have knowledge of parts, components, and assemblies of bowling equipment and know how these parts are installed and work together.  
  3.  Must have ability to locate malfunctions through visual, operational, audio, and standard test equipment checks.
  4. Must have ability to read and understand schematics, wiring diagrams, block diagrams, and manufacturer's service manuals.  
  5. Successful completion of bowling equipment mechanic course is strongly preferred, but not required.
  6.  Must possess good communications skills to train and oversee lower graded maintenance employees.
