Representative duties may include:

  • Install, configure, update, maintain, or troubleshoot hardware, software, operating systems, networks, applications, or related components.
  • Monitor computer systems, networks, and applications to identify recurring problems, service interruptions, or user needs.
  • Support IT security activities and help protect systems, data, and assets from unauthorized, accidental, or deliberate modification, disclosure, or destruction.
  • Assess potential risks, technical challenges, or service issues and help prepare recommendations for mitigation or improvement.
  • Prepare technical documentation, reports, user guidance, status updates, and other IT work products.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, customers, or partners to resolve issues and keep technology work moving forward.
  • Use spreadsheets, collaboration platforms, dashboards, automation, or approved AI-enabled tools, where authorized, to support research, drafting, summarization, data organization, reporting, and workflow improvement.
  • Review digital or AI-assisted outputs for accuracy, security, completeness, relevance, and appropriate use before incorporating them into official work.

Depending on the hiring agency, you may also use digital tools, dashboards, automation, and approved AI-enabled tools to support troubleshooting, documentation, system research, cybersecurity awareness, code or script review where authorized, data analysis, and technical communication. This is a pooled hiring action. Specific duty locations are not known at the time of this announcement. Positions may be located anywhere in the United States where federal agencies are located. Duty location will be determined at the time of selection based on the needs of the agency and the interests of the candidate.

Qualifications

Pathways Recent Graduate Program

You are eligible as a Recent Graduate if you meet one of the following (Proof of eligibility (e.g., transcripts, certificate of completion) required):
A. You completed a qualifying associate's, bachelor's, master's, professional, doctorate, vocational, or technical degree, or certificate from a qualifying educational institution within the previous two years; OR
B. You completed a qualifying career or technical education program that awards a recognized post-secondary credential (e.g., a Registered Apprenticeship Program, Job Corps, or Federally-administered local, state, national, or international volunteer service program, such as AmeriCorps or Peace Corps) within the previous two years; OR
C. If you are a veteran who was prevented from applying during the two-year period due to your military service, then you may apply if your degree, certificate, or industry-recognized credential was completed within the last six years.

Grade-specific requirements

Applicants must meet or exceed the minimum proficiency levels for the general competencies listed above and experience for the grade level(s) for which they are applying.

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Such experience is typically gained in the IT field or through the performance of work where the primary concern is IT.

GS-7
Applicants may qualify at the GS-7 level based on meeting the competencies listed above and demonstrating one year of specialized experience that includes at least three of the following:
  1. Assisting with installation, configuration, maintenance, or troubleshooting of hardware, software, operating systems, networks, or applications.
  2. Assisting with assessing potential risks or technical challenges to prepare recommendations for mitigation.
  3. Supporting IT systems, applications, networks, cybersecurity, data tools, or user technology services.
  4. Providing customer support, technical documentation, or troubleshooting assistance for IT-related issues.
Specialized experience must be equivalent to the GS-5 grade level or higher in the Federal service, defined by the responsibilities listed above.

GS-9
Applicants may qualify at the GS-9 level based on meeting the competencies listed above and demonstrating one year of specialized experience that includes at least three of the following:
  1. Installing, configuring, updating, maintaining, or troubleshooting hardware, software, operating systems, networks, or applications.
  2. Assessing potential risks or technical challenges to prepare recommendations for mitigation or improvement.
  3. Supporting IT security controls, data protection, system reliability, or technology service delivery.
  4. Diagnosing recurring problems, service interruptions, or technical issues to document recommended solutions.
Specialized experience must be equivalent to the GS-7 grade level or higher in the Federal service, defined by the responsibilities listed above.

GS-11
Applicants may qualify at the GS-11 level based on meeting the competencies listed above and demonstrating one year of specialized experience that includes at least three of the following:
  1. Installing, configuring, updating, maintaining, or troubleshooting hardware, software, operating systems, networks, applications, or related components.
  2. Assessing technical risks, security issues, system reliability concerns, or service delivery problems to recommend mitigation or improvement strategies.
  3. Supporting IT security controls, data protection, system reliability, cybersecurity activities, or technology service delivery.
  4. Diagnosing recurring problems, service interruptions, or technical issues to document recommended solutions or improvements.
Specialized experience must be equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or higher in the Federal service, defined by the responsibilities listed above.

Experience may include paid or unpaid work, including internships, volunteer service, student leadership, military service, apprenticeships, or other relevant activities. Resumes must clearly describe duties, dates, and hours worked per week.

Education
