Duties

Help
  • Serve as a leader for a group of Fire Inspectors.
  • Prepare facilities inspection and testing inspection schedules for all facilities, fire related systems and other extinguishing systems that are tested by fire prevention and suppression personnel.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of any and all National Fire Protection standards as well as all DA and DOD regulations.
  • Conduct plan reviews for new construction and renovations of existing structures within the assigned area.

  • Must be able to pass pre-appointment physical and subsequent annual medical examinations IAW DOD 6055.05-M and NFPA 1582
  • Incumbent must participate in a cardiovascular physical fitness program.
  • Incumbent must wear a uniform and safety apparel in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • This is a mission essential position whereby the incumbent is required to report for duty or remain in place during inclement weather conditions or other appropriate emergency conditions in order to carry out the assigned mission.
  • An appropriate, valid state and government driver's license is required as well as Emergency Vehicle Operators certification to operate all vehicles assigned to the Fire Protection and Prevention Division.
  • This position requires the incumbent to work 56 hours per week (112 hours Bi-Weekly) with one 24 hour tour of duty weekly and may require working weekends and holidays.
  • This position may require occasional TDY and incumbent to travel via land and/or air.
  • Incumbent maybe required to serve a one-year probationary period if not already served.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 grade level in the Federal service which includes performing fire prevention inspections of a variety of facilities and equipment with continuing responsibility for an installation characterized by high degrees of fire hazards and potential severity; plan and direct the installation fire prevention programs and to serve as a technical advisor to verify code compliance in hazardous material handling, storage, and use.

In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, applicants must also possess: Fire Officer II, Fire Inspector II, Fire Instructor II, Hazardous Materials Incident Commander, Firefighter I/IIcertified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M.. The incumbent must obtain and maintain National Registry Emergency Medical Technician as condition of employment.
