Duties

Attend the local hiring event. During the hiring event, we will be making job offers on-the-spot and selected candidates will complete several pre-employment steps. Space is limited. Applicants will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis. The entire process can take about 2-3 hours to complete. Please plan accordingly. The following are the duties of this position at the full working level. If this vacancy includes more than one grade and you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform these duties and receive training to help you grow in this position.
  • Researches a variety of sources, analyzes, and initiates actions on tax issues obtaining applicable returns, schedules, and all required information for correction of accounts and records; verifies, analyzes and adjusts taxpayer accounts.
  • Review return submitted by taxpayers for the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, Additional Child Tax Credit, American Opportunity Credit and other various credits. Identifies Statue returns for expedited processing.
  • Secures pay of taxes and filing of returns. Determines financial, levy source, adjustment and uncollectible information; advises taxpayers of appeal procedures.

  • Probationary Period - All newly appointed employees to the competitive (or excepted) service are subject to a probationary (or trial) period. During this time, your performance, conduct, and suitability for continued employment will be evaluated. Your supervisor must affirmatively determine that continued employment is in the best interest of the Federal service. Key Eligibility Requirements:
  • U.S Citizenship - Must be a U.S. Citizen or National and provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • Selective Service Registration - Males born after December 31, 1959 are required to be registered with the Selective Service System or prove they are exempt from having to do so.
  • Personal Identity Verification (PIV) - Must provide 2 forms of identification from the Form I-9. Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S. These documents must be unexpired original or certified copies.

Qualifications

Federal experience is not required. Experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or through Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-timework is considered on a prorated basis. To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/day/year, and indicate number of hours worked per week, on your resume.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
GENERAL EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION GS-04: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements to qualify at this grade level: At least one year of general experience. General experience includes progressively responsible clerical, administrative, financial, customer service, or records-related work that demonstrates the ability to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position. Examples of qualifying experience include:

  • Reviewing, entering, updating, or maintaining information in automated systems, databases, records, or files.
  • Examining documents for completeness, accuracy, or compliance with established procedures and identifying missing or incorrect information.
  • Researching information from multiple sources and taking appropriate action based on established guidelines and procedures.
  • Using computer systems and office software to process transactions, track information, or complete administrative assignments.
OR Successful completion of two (2) years of education above the high school level from an accredited college, university, business, secretarial, or technical school.
OR A combination of education and experience equivalent to one (1) year of general experience.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION GS-05: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes experience such as:
  • Reviewing, researching, and processing records, accounts, applications, forms, returns, claims, or other documents to determine completeness, accuracy, and compliance with established procedures.
  • Identifying discrepancies, errors, omissions, or inconsistent information; researching applicable records or source documents; and taking appropriate action to resolve issues.
  • Using automated systems, databases, online research tools, or records systems to update information, correct records, and document actions taken.
  • Applying established rules, regulations, procedures, or guidelines to process transactions and resolve routine account- or case-related issues.
  • Analyzing information from multiple sources and initiating appropriate actions to support account maintenance, document processing, or case resolution activities.
OR Successful completion of four (4) years of education above the high school level leading to a bachelor's degree, or a bachelor's or higher degree.
OR A combination of education and experience equivalent to one (1) year of specialized experience.

AND

You must also meet the following requirement(s):
  • MINIMUM AGE REQUIREMENT: Minimum age for federal employment is 18 years old, or at least 16 years old and have:
    • Graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or
    • Completed a formal vocational training program; or
    • Received a statement from school authorities agreeing with your preference for employment rather than continuing your education.

  • Fingerprint/Criminal History Check - This position requires that the successful candidate undergo personnel vetting, which includes a background investigation and enrollment upon onboarding into "Continuous Vetting." Enrollment in Continuous Vetting will result in automated record checks being conducted throughout one's employment with Treasury. The successful candidate will also be enrolled into FBI's Rap Back service, which will allow Treasury to receive notification from the FBI of criminal matters (e.g., arrests, charges, convictions) involving enrolled individuals in near real-time.
