Help

If you are selected as an Supervisory Information Technology Specialist (Engineering), your responsibilities would include, but would not be limited to:

  • Leading engagements with customers and team members to conduct business and functional requirements gathering and identify customer business processes to formulate system requirements.
  • Developing detailed project plans, tasks, and schedules and identify milestone dates to ensure proper sequencing of events, work efforts, and resources to accomplish objectives.
  • Developing and implementing strategic, long-term, and short-term IT projects, tasks, and roadmaps.
  • Performing supervisory and managerial functions by planning, assigning, and reviewing work, developing performance plans, evaluating, and appraising subordinate work performance.
  • Providing expert advice, guidance, and recommendations on critical IT Engineering architecture, system, network, and software matters.
  • Regularly briefing senior OIG leadership/staff on project status and significant developments.
  • Keeping all parties informed of project status, changes in requirements, changes in resources, and impacts on meeting established project timelines, tasks, milestones, and objectives.
  • Working with other strategic leaders throughout government to challenge conventional approaches and to develop new methods and systems for delivering mission benefits through cutting-edge technologies and program solutions.
  • Responsible for various duties such as group facilitation, consensus building, coordination, coaching, problem solving, interpersonal communication, integration of work processes and products, and obtaining resources.
  • Providing expert advice, guidance, and recommendations on critical IT Engineering architecture, system, network, and software matters.
  • Knowledge of the principles and methods to identify, analyze, specify, design, and manage functional and infrastructure requirements; including translating functional requirements into technical requirements used for logical design or presenting alternative technologies or approaches.
  • Knowledge of developments and new applications of information technology (hardware, software, telecommunications), emerging technologies and their applications to business processes, and applications and implementation of information systems to meet organizational requirements.
  • Coordinating with stakeholders to ensure appropriate information systems requirements are represented, functional requirements are included in analyses and designs, business practices are addressed and/or redesigned, and incorporates stakeholder feedback.
  • Eliciting customer support in the development of plans and finalizing project schedules.
  • Regularly meeting with all stakeholders to review and maintain productive interaction.

Probationary Information:

Basic Requirement

  1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
  2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
  3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
  5. Technical Competence- Uses knowledge that is acquired through formal training or extensive on the job experience to perform one's job; works with, understands, and evaluates technical information related to the job; advises others on technical issues.
Specialized Experience:
To qualify for this position at the GS-15 grade level, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 grade level obtained in the public sector. (Specialized experience is paid or unpaid experience which has equipped you with the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.) Examples of specialized experience include such duties as:
  1. Developing short- and long-term strategic vision, technical roadmaps, and future resourcing. In addition, directing and executing efforts to convey complex information concerning programs, activities, and services on a variety of IT systems and applications.
  2. Supervising a staff of IT specialists at the GS-14 level and below, that performs work that includes designing, deploying, testing, maintaining, and Selective Placement Factor administering on-prem and cloud systems, networks, and services.
  3. Direct experience in developing and implementing enhancements and continuous improvements towards IT systems, infrastructure, workflows, and processes.
  4. Applying experience in implementing and sustaining critical IT Engineering and cloud architecture, system lifecycle management, network infrastructure, and software management.
