The purpose of this position is to serve as a maintenance worker for Base Lodging

The position is a regular part-time position, which means you are eligible for benefits and guaranteed to work at least 20 hours per week. Position requires working irregular schedules, to include weekends, holidays, and all shifts.

Duties

Help

1. Performs a variety of maintenance, custodial and repair jobs to include simple carpentry, minor installation projects and repair, plumbing, painting, minor vehicle maintenance, electrical fixtures and minor construction for the lodging operation. Replaces light bulbs, light fixtures and electric outlets. Accomplishes electrical work to comply with Air Force regulations. These simple routine tasks are performed with little supervision. The more complex jobs will be performed by local civil engineers.

2. Repairs small holes in sheetrock walls to include patching, sanding and painting as required. Repairs door and doorways which may require changing of locks, unjamming doors and sanding and painting as needed. Mixes coating materials according to specific directions or uses pre-mixed paint. Paints small areas as directed. Insures that surfaces are full coated, protected and free from drips and runs. Cleans stoppages in plumbing, i.e.., unclog drains, toilets, showers, replaces washers in faucets and replaces shower heads. Inspects and performs minor repairs on carts, shampooers, refrigerators, washers, dryers, television sets, DVD's to include reprogramming of TV's and remotes, telephone system problems, replacement of telephones and other accessories.

3. Performs minor repair and maintenance of furniture to include gluing and refinishing damaged areas. Repairs drapery rods and/or venetian blinds, replaces interior trim, broken or worn tile. Repairs and performs preventative maintenance on small appliances such as hand tools, blow dryers, vacuum cleaners, lamps and coffee pots. Installs shelving and towel racks or rods in bathrooms, housekeeping storage areas and supply rooms and/or other designated areas. Troubleshoots heating/cooling systems to determine compressor activity and electrical operation.

4. Polices and inspects outside areas of transient quarters, adjacent parking areas and access roads. Ensures debris, leaves, fallen limbs and trash are picked up throughout lodging facilities on a daily basis. Waters lawns and flower beds, cuts grass, and trims shrubs and greenery around buildings. Washes windows as needed, using step ladder or extension ladder. Uses and maintains tools and equipment. Refers problems to immediate supervisor. Completes AF form 1800 and maintains vehicles in accordance with established guidelin

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience: Applicant must have a general knowledge and experience in the minor repair of furniture, woodwork refinishing, electrical repair and plumbing. Must be able to use a variety of hand tools associated with carpentry, painting and plumbing. Knowledge of standard surface preparation and coating methods and techniques. Must be able to read, write and speak English and be able to follow oral and written instructions. Must have the ability to do more than one task at a time and use judgment in sequencing tasks. Must be physically able to occasionally lift objects and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be able to continuously stand, bend, stoop and reach for long periods of time. Must be able to work indoors and outdoors subject to weather, dust and drafts

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
