Help
  • Develop draft written recommendations for the Board’s approval regarding jurisdiction.
  • Develop, prepare and write PRRB substantive decisions, ensuring that all aspects of the case are identified and properly addressed.
  • Review records of the PRRB to ensure that pertinent law, regulations, rulings, etc., have been properly cited and applied; review briefs and position papers for legal accuracy.
  • Advise and assist the parties' legal counsel and other representatives on legal, technical, and substantive aspects of preparing for a hearing before the Board.

Experience requirement for GS-13: Requires 2 years of professional legal experience post bar admission, with one year of experience equivalent to the GS-12 level.

Bar membership requirement: HHS Attorney positions require current active bar membership. Admission to the bar of any State, territory, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, District of Columbia, or Federal Court is acceptable. Employees must maintain active bar membership while employed as an attorney with HHS. Active bar membership is verified prior to appointment.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education Requirement: In addition to meeting the qualification requirements, all candidates must have the following educational requirements:


You must possess a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from an accredited school.

Proof that bar status is active, in good standing and eligible to practice in the highest court of a State, U. S. commonwealth, U. S. territory, or the District of Columbia

License: A current, valid license with eligibility to practice law in a state, the District of Columbia, or any United States territory or commonwealth is a continuing condition of employment for Federal attorneys.
