Summary

Services and checks air conditioning systems by purging/recharging systems.
Operates several vehicles such as gasoline, diesel, or electric powered wheeled vehicles, dump trucks, passenger shuttle and cargo vans which have a gross vehicle weight of 10,000 pounds to and up to 26,000 pounds.
Operates hydraulic dumping mechanisms to unload or spread material in a dump bed.
Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements: Work in tiring, awkward and uncomfortable positions. Stand for long periods of time. Bend, stoop, crawl under vehicles and make repairs in tight spaces. Frequently, lift, handle, and carry parts and equipment weighting up to 40 pounds. Occasionally move moderately heavy items with assistance or with mechanical devices, including objects weighting up to over 50 pounds. Effort is required to control vehicles that carry heavy loads or large number of people. Incumbent meets planes, drives buses/vans etc. up to 150 miles from the VAMC to pick up new admissions, VACO personnel, supplies, etc. Incumbent is responsible to assist others (Nursing Aids) for safe loading and unloading of patients and/or residents, and wheelchair patients.
Working Conditions: Automotive work is performed on concrete surfaces where there is exposure to drafts, noise and fumes from vehicles. Occasionally, performs work outside under adverse weather conditions. Continually exposed to dirt, dust, and grease, and to the potential for burns, chemical irritations, socks, bruises, cuts and strains. Operates vehicles in all type of weather and traffic conditions. Drives in heavy traffic and at highway speeds over complicated road and interchange systems and has the potential to be exposed to the danger of serious accidents.
